This article is a quick guide to micro messaging. It defines Twitter’s terms that are “often a gibberish in uniformed eyes”. It encourages the readers to tweet in less than 140 characters. The author claims that this article is a “complete guide to Twitter’s language and acronyms” and will make you “seem like a regular pro in no time”. However, a reader named Su Butcher found this article misleading because it is “far

It is based on responds from the respondents on her previous article about the same topics. She shows the effectiveness of Twitter with the 140 characters limit and Twitter’s symbols like retweet. She somehow classifies the purposes to the personal group and the business group. She mentions “making friends” and “procrastination” which are personal. She also mentions “events” and “promotion” which are more business purpose. She shows a slight comparison between Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn on “Making Friends” and claims that Twitter “isn’t just a ‘business’ or ‘personal’ network”. I can use this article as a base of my topic since it shows different purposes of tweeting. It doesn’t really say anything about English language so I need to do more research on that. It is obvious that the users will change the way they tweet based on their purposes. Surprisingly the characters limit is actually the attractive part of Twitter. It helps users to communicate faster and more …show more content…

This blog post claims that excessive use of Twitter can damage the users’ moralities. Researchers. Scientist from University of Southern California conducted the brain scan study in order to look how the brain reacts to the noblest emotion. They found out that brain takes longer time for emotional response. So it may take longer time to response on impact of psychological situation than on physical situation. They don’t conduct experiment on specific social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc) because they want highlight that “it’s not about what tools you but the way you use those tools”. Rapid news stream “may cut down the time for admiration or compassion to sink in fully”. Twitter allows its users to tweet anything in particularly fast way. In other hands the other user rely on those tweets that probably have information that at the end not fully absorbed because the rapid stream of news. As a Twitter user myself I have to agree that information streams on Twitter can give me almost everything I need to know. Sometimes it can be too much information with no time to think about it. I know that this article doesn’t have anything specific on my topic. It will help make even stronger base for my claim since now I know that negative externalities of Twitter are not just procrastination or wasting

Daum takes the time to evaluate Twitter as if it were a person, stating that Twitter would be “an emotionally unstable person…that person we avoid at parties” (233). She goes further to add that Twitter will be the person we would view as mentally ill and will eventually feel sorry for. Her tone here towards Twitter is depicted as being fed up with users disclosed thoughts of one’s self. Daum examines these tweets as unstable and this is apparent because if you take away the whole purpose and backbone of Twitter, it is just mostly users microblogging their every move and thought. Looking at the bigger picture this is when “I don’t give a tweet what you’re doing” becomes notable. It is true that we all have that one friend that constantly rambles about something either random or irrelevant. My friend Bobby is that friend that mirrors Daum’s reflection of Twitter as a person. For instance, Bobby is always looking for attention and if no one is giving it to her she splats out something pointless just like most Twitter users do. I would rather not answer her phone calls because she can go on about herself and drift off upon pointless conversations becoming “the tragic oversharer” we would all like to…

David Silver in Twitter Meets the Breakfast Club, explains different ways how twitter and social media are great ways to keep in touch with classmates and students as a professor at a school. According to David Silver, he used to warn his students to “Be, Careful” in the mid 1990’s warning students what they put on the world wide web is public, until his mind set changed when he started a twitter assignment with a class on history of television cooking shows called “Green-Media” (498). David Silver’s had students join twitter for many good reasons, one being that “Twitter accounts are public, for their professor, their classmates, and the larger twitter community to access their work” (Silver 498). This means that the class can easily interact…

A majority of college students engage in social networks such as Twitter and Facebook for educational benefits and entertainment. Twitter and Facebook usefulness depends on how the user engages in these social networks. Twitter is known for sharing information with other individuals who share the same interest, and a “growing number of professors are embracing it as away to introduce students to a different kind of communication” (Miners, 2009). Professors also realized that communicating through Twitter keeps students engaged in course content in and outside the university, and keeps them current with real world event alerts or issues that are relevant to the course. No one is ever too old or experienced to still learn in today’s society and professors even use Twitter to find answers to teaching…

The first strength that Twitter has is its large amount of users. Twitter has hundreds of millions of users and the number continues to go. This is a quality strength because it give Twitter a large audience to send information to. It is a powerful thing to have such a large base of people all under one system. Twitter can utilize large group of people in multiple ways. The size also makes Twitter appealing to other outlets and companies. The amount of things possible with such a large audience is endless. Twitter has just begun using the information for promoting messages and having sponsored tweets that companies pay for. Without users, Twitter has no power. That is why the consumers are such a critical strength for twitter. The users create the publicity and product knowledge of twitter. There are not many advertisements for twitter. The company relies on buzz marketing and other outlets to promote the company from the other side.…

With that being stated, as someone who has a personal Twitter account, I was intrigued by the title of Pamela DeLoatch’s journal article, “How to Use Twitter for Teaching and Learning” since I currently use this website as a go-to for political jokes, entertainment updates, and for sharing my own rambling musings. Before I began reading DeLoatch’s article, I tried to think of clever uses for incorporating Twitter into the classroom, and, admittedly, there were only a few ideas I came up with, and they didn’t seem entirely beneficial to the educational experience.…
