Leonhardt, D. (2013) The Liberals Against Affirmative Action. The New York Times.
This article sheds light on the last affirmative action case which was 10 years ago. The article goes into detail about the 13 page dissent that Justice Anthony M. Kennedy issued after the ruling. The article also talks about whether or not colleges should be allowed to take race into consideration so that they can have diverse classes. Siskind, S. (2012) Affirmative Dissatisfaction.
In this article it discusses how Abigail Fisher is in the midst of filing a suit against the University of Texans at Austin. It goes on to say she didn’t have much of a case even though she was a minority, being a red head which less than two percent of the population were in 2012, it still did not give her a case. It also goes onto discuss race being to much of an issue in schools. Another interesting post in this article is about the poor getting more advantages because of the affirmative action laws. Mcgough M. (2013) A hint that affirmative action may survive The writer of this article talks about how gay marriages being approved. How affirmative action may become a new law for some colleges. He thinks the Texans went to far but doesn’t fully deny the hassle of affirmative action laws.
I feel these articles will help me when writing my paper because they have shown me a different outlook on my topic. I am not fully for affirmative action only because my own experiences and having to turn so many great people away because we had to meet our “goals” for affirmative action. I was also unaware of the affirmative action laws heading into neat colleges. This can help me with more topics to be discussed.
