Apps for Children with Special Needs also known as a4cwsn was designed to help children with disabilities as well as their families and caregivers. It also helps the educators and therapists that are involved in their care. A4cwsn gives students the opportunity to use technology to build their skills in life and school through hands-on approaches. There are tons of apps available for children to learn and grow with. Some examples of apps that are available for students with disabilities help with memory, identifying sounds, exploring new places, writing letters, reading, phonics, number sequencing, and increasing their knowledge of different animals.

This website is designed for parents with children with disabilities. DREAMMS stands for Developmental Research for the Effective Advancement of Memory and Motor Skills. DREAMMS provides assistive technology for students with special needs. DREAMMS gives the proper information and tools needs to increase the use of computers and high quality instruction for students with disabilities in their home as well as their school.

The Council of State School Officers created SERGE to assist all classroom educators easy and fast access to all information about special education needs of those students with disabilities. The website also gives educators the information they need about professional development with these students. SERGE gives educators the information they need to know and information that they should already know to make sure that they are meeting the needs of all their students in their classroom especially those students with special needs. Most of the resources that are available through SERGE; such as different activities and information used to meet the needs of students are granted through different governmental and non-profit resources.

Professional Organizations
Alliance for Technology Access (ATA)

ATA is used to help increase the technology usage with children with disabilities as well as adults with disabilities and those adults and children with functional limitations. ATA inspires all with disabilities to be active within their community. ATA facilitates adults and children to live, work, achieve their dreams, learn, and define their futures through all school systems, community organizations, advocacy efforts, policy efforts, information, referral, and capacity.

The Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health

This is a family-run organization that is completely determined to work with as well as help children with mental needs accomplish better things in their lives. The organization gives all families the leadership they need to create and assist family-run organizations nationwide as well as looking at how systems accommodate children with needs as well as their families needs. This organization also helps "policy-makers, agencies, and providers become more effective in delivering and supports that foster healthy emotional development for all children" (FFCMH, 2014). On this site you can also find different resources available, the training materials used and the different materials for family support.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)

CEC is created and dedicated to increase the educational outcomes for children with disabilities, gifted children, and/or those with exceptionalities. The website gives a list of government policies as well as the current professional standards. This website is targeted mostly for parents, teachers, students, service providers, administrators, and paraprofessionals.

National Association of Special Education Teachers

NASET is the only national organization that is solely dedicated to help assist the needs of special educator teachers. This organization also helps prepare those people who are looking to become a part of the special education field. NASET website gives different resources that help teachers receive the best information to dedicate themselves to ensure that all are making the educational experience the best education possible for those with disabilities. NASET includes different apps for the iPhone and iPad that can be used to help increase the educational experience.

FACETS: Family-guided Approaches to Collaborative Early-Intervention Training and Services

This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education from Flordia State University to the University of Kansas. This program was created to help as well as support and provide training for all family-guided activities as well as family-guided interventions for families with children that have special needs. The site gives information about the program that Florida State University implemented called TaCTICS.

Research and Training Center on Family Support and Children's Mental Health

RTC is a federally funded organization that is committed to advocating sufficient "community-based, culturally competent, family-centered services for families and their children who are, or may be affected by mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders" (Portland Research and Training Center, 2014). The center works with the child's family members, policy makers, service providers, and anyone who works with the child to participate in research based on the child. RTC provides and maintains a certain number os resources available for all families including "monographs, articles, and issue briefs" (Portland Research and Training Center, 2014). Annually, RTC offers the families and the child conferences, resource lists, links, tools, and discussions about anything they may need assistance with as well as questions and concerns.

    The case student for this project will be Derrick Shepherd. Derrick’s diagnosis is Down syndrome. Derrick is in 4th grade, 10 years old, and has an IQ of 39. Derrick can say approximately 25 words, all which are hard to understand unless you are familiar with his language. He has hypotonia and fine motor difficulties, so he has a hard time manipulating small objects and holding onto pencils, pens, and other similar objects. Because of his fine motor difficulties, his writing is slow and hard to read. As far as academic knowledge, Derrick can read a small amount of names and words and he knows numbers one through ten. Due to the fine motor difficulties and lower academic knowledge, Derrick could show significant improvements by using assistive technology. Derrick could be able to utilize technology similar to iPad software or computer programs to assist dysgraphia. This could help him be able to more legibly complete assignments and learn new material without having to hold or pick through small objects like pencils and paper. The AT would need to improve Derrick`s independence, self-sufficiency, personal choice, participation, inclusion, and dignity (Dell, 2008).
