Anna Garcia's Death: A Case Study
Anna Garcia was a 40 year old woman who mysteriously died on August of 2015. Anna Garcia died because of a stroke caused by diabetes. Evidence of a stroke include the lens of the right eye appearing cloudy, blood vessels in boths eyes are swollen, abnormal blood vessels present on left retina, vision most likely compromised, and mild ischemia in several regions of the brain. Evidence of this stroke being diabetic is many problems found in the autopsy are related to diabetes. These include high blood glucose, atherosclerosis, necrotic section on kidneys, low blood flow, ankles are swollen, mild peripheral vascular disease in left leg and inflamed red injection sites on left thigh.

A lot happened on the morning that Anna died. That morning she ate more glucose than she was supposed to because she is a diabetic. Anna went on a walk and then came back home. The symptoms of a stroke that are present in Anna could be from diabetes or sickle cell, as well as the ankles being swollen, kidney damage and a low amount of blood flow. All the other complications that I found could not relate to sickle cell but only to diabetes. Also, since there were red injection sights on Anna’s thigh, I thought the stroke would more likely be related to diabetes because you don’t have to inject anything during a sickle cell crisis. Lastly, I don’t think that Anna died from sickle cell because the amount of hydroxyurea Anna had taken was at the prescribed levels. Hydroxyurea helps prevent sickle cell crisis so I believe Anna had her sickle cell well taken care of that day. That is why I concluded that Anna didn’t die from sickle

I never thought the day would come that I would want a child of mine to die instead of live. Nancy is in a place of no return and I pray to God everyday that he would allow her to die and stop her suffering. It is so difficult to look at her and only see a shell of a human being that use to be my daughter. I only wish that the government and the rehab hospital would mind their own business and let this situation be handled by our family. Everyday I sit at home in the kitchen waiting for Joe to call when he got off of work. He wanted to know about any news on the case and to check what came in the mail. It was the highlight of our day and the most disappointing part of our day. Everyday when Joe came home from work he would take the mail into the basement to read and…

This allows Anna to develop more confidence in her knowledge and become a stronger, more assertive woman. When Elinor calls for Anna's help to deliver Mary Daniel's child, she is at first hesitant to assist because her own mother died during childbirth when she was just four years old. Elinor insists, however, telling Anna that "You know a very great deal more than you think you do" and eventually, Anna gives in and prepares to deliver the baby, recalling memories from her own first confinement to help her. Anna tries not to think about the fact that she is about to "invade the body of a living woman", however she quickly overcomes this thought, and tries to "...quiet that part of my mind hammering away about modesty and violation." Although she is unsure of what she is doing, she acts as though she does, as she thinks it important that Mary sees her acting confidently. Once her hands were inside of Mary, however, it seemed as though her flesh "felt as familiar" to her as her own and Anna has little difficulty in helping her deliver the baby. Afterwards, they laughed and "for an hour, in that season of death," they celebrated a life. This particular event sees Anna developing a part of her that is confident and sure of her own knowledge and skills. Due to her experiences in birthing livestock, Anna is already equipped with the skills necessary to assist in childbirth but there exists a different part of her inside that is naturally gifted in midwifery and it is this part that truly allows her to shine and take control of what she can do thus leading her to discover her natural confidence and…

When I first began reading the novel, I warned of two things, that I would cry like a baby and that it will break my heart, and it successfully did. At the beginning I had a very clear view on the situation - that Sarah was wrong and Anna was right. I thought: how could you ask your child to do something that would endanger her life? It didn't occur to me that by Anna refusing to donate her kidney Kate would definitely die. It didn't occur to me that Sarah was only trying to save her child.…
