Animal Testing Essay

Animal testing is the number one reason that we have come so far in the medical field and have excelled in keeping the majority alive but it has caused grief in the animal and human world because of the harm it does to over 200,000 animals all over. Some of the biggest companies in the world such as Clorox, Lysol, Chapstick, Dove and many other brands that are used by most people on a daily basis, use animals to test the safety of their products (PETA). Animals are used most often in the medical field and are used to test the effects of certain drugs to the body. Even though those tests seem to be good to society it is actually a deficit on the animal kingdom and the treatment of animals. The animals that are used for tests are usually harmed,
Even though that may be the case, there needs to be an alternative to just hurting animals and killing them or leaving them to die (Anderegg 145). Most people completely agree with science and how the science world works but do not agree with the torture and murder of animals. “The use of these animals are getting to the point where hundreds of thousands of animals are being killed” (Thomas). Though animals such as cows, pigs, and chickens are killed in the hundred thousands everyday it seems that when animals are being killed for food it is okay but when mice, rats, guinea pigs and chimps are used to test drugs that severely hurt them it is inhumane and unethical. The compounds of chemicals that make up animals and humans differ between the species, this is not commonly taken into consideration and has an effect on the solutions given and how medicines are made. Since Humans have a different chemical balance and different DNA than most plants and animals, it seems that medical testing sounds redundant with animals because you would not have the same results. Humans may be an alternative to abusing animals when it comes to “safer” drugs and medications but since most of these medicines are considered dangerous to test humans
