Imagine this, you are a cute little beagle puppy, locked in a cage inside of a research lab. The scientists who have you locked in that cage are trying to find cures for certain diseases and illnesses. They would take you out of your cage and take some blood samples, and then they inject you with a sedative so they can start their experiments. Some of the experiments may cause you to die, or get sick. But one thing is for certain, you will never be the puppy that gets to live with a nice family, and live a happy life. Some people never think about how scientists create vaccines, cures for diseases and illnesses, or even regular medicine doctors prescribe. But there are many that do. They use animals to test what will work, and what will not work. Many of the animals they use die due to some of the medicines the scientists have created. Many people are opposed to animal testing and there is an equal amount that are for it, which make it a controversial subject, but both sides must be considered. The viewpoint people hear most about is the opposition of animal testing. Many organizations are against it, but the biggest one is People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PETA is most known for throwing red paint on those who wear fur, but they have shown how they are against animal testing. Most recently they have spoken out against The University of Utah (The U). The U has been acquiring animals from shelters around the University, and using invasive and sometimes deadly experiments. Kathy Guillermo, the PETA Vice President of Laboratory Investigations, stated, “People in the Salt Lake City area have a right to know that when they turn a cat or a dog over to an animal shelter, there’s a chance that the animal will be maimed and die in pain at the University of Utah. It’ll be hard to turn a corner in the city without being reminded of the cruelty and carnage that goes on every day behind closed doors at the U.”(PETA Blankets Salt Lake City…par 3) PETA has...
