Visiting the zoo is a fun family activity that 175 million people do each year (“Zoo Statistics”). However, the animals in the zoo are treated horribly. As a kid, visiting the zoo was one of my favorite activities. I loved watching the animals and spending time with my family, but as I grew older, my joy of the zoo diminished when I realized what was happening to the animals. The mighty tiger that was once strutting across the grass is now a dreary, unhealthy animal that walks aimlessly just to pass the time. Many animals die an unnatural death because of the treatment they receive in zoos and the lack of space reserved for them. Zoos promise to bring in animals that are either endangered or unhealthy; however, a remarkable number of animals…
First and foremost, for zoo’s, keeping these wild animals help us humans research the lives of these, “wild” animals. Yet these “wild” animals are instead put in cages, making them not so “wild” animals. As stated in the article, “What’s Wrong with Zoos?” by Amy Whiting, “Research conducted in the artificial environment…
In the article “The Stripes Will Survive,” the author, Jacqueline Adams, provides information about the Cleveland Metropark Zoo’s Siberian tigers and tigresses. The Siberian tigers are an endangered species, and some are kept, cared, and bred at that zoo. As stated in the previous paragraph, all zoos protect animals, but in different ways. For animals that are endangered, zoos usually…
Zoos: Tiger in zoo Zoos remove animals from their natural birthplaces and companions, and confine them in unnatural surroundings. Justifications include arguments such as “they show us animals we normally wouldn’t see”; “they help rehabilitate animals”; and “they are an important educational tool in preserving endangered species.”…
The power of an advertisement can have quite a big effect on some people. By focusing on their desired audience, salesmen and women can lure their customers into buying their product. Sarah McLachlan’s BC SPCA animal cruelty campaign advertisement evokes empathy towards abused and suffering animals making one feel guilty if they don’t call and help with the cause through visuals, audio, and text.…
Margaret Lewin should keep Isaiah as a child for now in his life. When Isaiah gets older in life, and is able to understand knows the truth of the story he can choose to live with either his biological mother or adopted mother.…
"More than 100 million animals are poisoned, burned, crippled, and abused in other ways in U.S. labs each year."(#1video) Animal testing became a common method between 200-300 BC, these tests were often led by important male figures such as Aristotle. In 1242 Ibn al- Nafis used animals to test blood circulation, his theory of human blood circulation was later proven by William Henry many years later. In the 1660's another scientist, Robert Boyle, theorized that living beings needed air to live, he proved his theory by testing on animals. In the 1800's people started standing against animal testing. People who stood against the cruelty brought on to animals led Great Britain to pass the Cruelty to Animals Act in 1876. In the 1900's the exact…
Research involving animals takes place in a wide array of institutions, expanding from colleges and universities to pharmaceutical facilities for the purpose of research and development [1]. These institutions provide novel approaches (methodology) and therapeutic pharmaceuticals derived from the research on animals. In the end, understanding the underlying pathology of animals paves way for the advancement of medicine in both humans and animals.…
Imagine if you were a victim to a deadly disease that was destroying one of your organs such as your heart. What if the only possibility to what could happen was simply death? Without animal experimentation, transplants from donors or the possibility of xenotransplantation, the transplantation of an organ or tissue from a different species from the recipient, would not be possible along with the numerous other benefits that have already been affecting our health. During animal experimentation, animals are used to “study causes and effects of illnesses, develop and test drugs, test surgical techniques, better understand body processes, and other medical therapies” (Animal Experimentation). The three broad classifications for animal use in biomedical…
Animal cruelty can be described as many different things. There are different ways to identify animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is when someone hurts an animal or does not care for an animal responsibly("PAWS-People Helping Animals"). Ways you could show cruelty towards an animal would be not feeding it or providing it with water, or even mistreatment of the animal. There are two known acts of animal cruelty: active and passive("Animal Cruelty and Neglect").…
When you come to the conclusion that you are ready for a new furry friend, you also come across many more decisions to make like these: “What type do I want? What should I name it? Should it be a boy or girl?” And the most important, “Should I adopt?” The decision to adopt an animal from a shelter is a big one but after considering these facts your mindset will definitely become altered. It is because of these statistics and information I have found that lead me to support a radical concept: that people should select companion from animal shelters where the animals have more deservingness and temperament.…
Zoos are like animal insurance, preventing predators from being able to hunt them down. As some may say, zoos are cruel and harsh punishments for the poor little animals that happen to be on display, but zoos are nothing in comparison to the devastating, murderous reality of the forests. According to the “Why Zoos Are Good” article,”They will not suffer from the threat or stress of predators (and nor will they be killed in a grisly manner or eaten alive) or the irritation and pain of parasites, injuries and…
The US National Institute of Health spends $14 billion out of their $31 billion annual budget on animal researching(Humane Society International; Conlee; US National Institutes of Health). Animal testing has become a very controversial topic to discuss. Experimenting on animals is cruel because even though there are alternative ways to test people still believe that testing on the animals is a better way to do things. Acts of cruelty against the animals, and the fact that animals are different from humans seem to be big issues in the controversy. There are alternative ways to test for products other than testing the animals. There have been horrible acts of animal cruelty that violates the Animal Welfare Act’s laws, and the last…
“ Exotic animals — lions, tigers, wolves, bears, reptiles, non-human primates- belong in their natural habitat and not in the hands of private individuals as “pets.” By their very nature, these animals are wild and potentially dangerous and, as such, do not adjust well to a captive environment.Exotic animals do not make good companions. They require special care, housing, diet, and maintenance that the average person cannot provide. When in the hands of private individuals the animals suffer due to poor care. They also pose safety and health risks to their possessors and any person coming into contact with them.” If exotic animals are kept they take more time and effort than any real pet would.…
Animal testing is one of the few animal cruelty's in the US, testing is in the laboratories for human products such as makeup hair products and many more. “Animal testing originated by the early Greeks physician-scientists, such as Aristotle, 384 – 322 BC. An Arab physician in twelfth-century Moorish Spain introduced animal testing as an experimental method for testing surgical procedures before applying them to human patients.” (History Of Animal Testing) Every year in America more than 105,000 different types of animals are abused and tortured in the labs. Animals born in the lab are ripped away from their families and are put in cages where there is little to no food or water and the cages are unsanitary. Animals from the wild manly mothers are often shot down and their babies will be held hostage to be…
