Animal Cruelty Or The Price Of Dinner Analysis
Animals are constantly being slaughtered for our own selfish eating habits, today people are more worried about their social media fame then what they’re putting into their bodies and the process that it takes to get to our plates. An author Nicholas Kristof, wrote “Animal Cruelty Or The Price Of Dinner?,” published in 2016 in the New York Times, and he argues that while the public are raising a riot about a dog getting abused by his owner, while millions of baby chickens are getting slaughtered everyday for our food and no one seems to care. Kristof starts building his credibility with reputable sources and personal facts, citing from his own research and conventional facts, and successfully discussing his own emotional appeals; however, his attempts to appeal to the readers’ emotions weaken his credibility and ultimately, his argument. …show more content…
Kristof then randomly throws in how this year in the U.S. nine billion chicks will be dangled by conveyor belts and killed, he mentions this fact because these two articles are similar. When tying these two problems together, Kristof points out how the cruelty of one dog as oppose to even worse cruelty to billions of chickens. Kristof also mentions how the poultry industry is inhumane and contains potentially harmful diseases, causing the chickens to turn into mush. Possible solutions to the problem, Kristof suggests, include raising chickens outside of their cages, grocery stores containing chickens with more traditional genetics, to raise the same concern that the public did for that dog in order to get the owner arrested for animal
