Duality- Slipknot (genre Metal) and Letting the telephone ring- Ani Difranco (Genre Indie/ Folk Rock)

These two songs both talk about cheating by someone you love but lyrically they are very different. Ani Difranco uses words that are softer and more emotional where as Slipknot chooses words that are harder and more physical. The word choice of these two distinct songs gives distinct overall sounds that are very different from one another. Ani uses the typical U that gives it a folky sound that in noticeable in her vocal timbre. The texture of her song is much softer and does this by using different words to give a different feel. Slipknot, however, crated a much harder texture by putting beat and emphasis on different words.

The Letting the telephone ring is a more intimate song. She does this by only using an acoustic guitar. She creates interest by changing the tempo and dynamics of the song with her voice and guitar. Duality, on the other hand, is much more complex instrumentally. They use are instruments and vocals. They are also able go from more to less heavy feel by using different dynamics, and vocal timbre.
