Anesthesiologist Personal Statement

When I was a young child, I witnessed my sister receiving stitches on her head. We were jumping on my bed when she fell and hit her head on the headboard. I was inspired by the medical professionals who treated her. Although this was a traumatic experience, it helped shape my aspiration to help others. Serving and improving the lives of others is a fundamental duty that I believe should be a part of everyone’s personal mission. Working in healthcare is the path that I discovered as an ideal way to accomplish this goal of service. In particular, I intend to eventually become an anesthesiologist where I will assist patients during medical procedures.
As I aspire to become a stellar medical professional, I recognize that I must develop expertise beyond just science and medicine. I was excited to learn that this curriculum allows me to complete my core studies in 18 months instead of the typical 24. In connection with my goal of obtaining a well-rounded education, I have a desire to study medical practices from outside of the US. Therefore, I would use the extra time to create a customized curriculum including electives and research opportunities that include study in another country. I am confident that this global approach will help me develop my skills in becoming a stellar medical professional.
Overall, I desire to pursue a career in medicine at Baylor College of Medicine as it will provide an opportunity to receive a customized and diverse education in many of Houston’s great medical facilities. In addition, I will be afforded the ability to participate in medical related community service.
