Andre Dubus's Townie: Bullying Case Study
Our group started the preparation work pretty quick as we have an agreement on the scope of social issue, which is bullying. After setting the topic, we spit our work – some were responsible for information fetching, while some collaborated everything to form it as a whole. We used a variety of media, like Dean Library e-database for online articles, Psychology textbooks, YouTube for video searching etc. I have created a drive for the network of resources for other group mates to access to, where everyone has the right to edit the outline and PowerPoint, making everything to perfection. We enriched our PowerPoint slides with numerous images on behalf of descriptions and annotations, since words have a high chance to bore our audience. We broke …show more content…
Our focus of the topic is to analyze the problem and how we – League of World Social Health Organization, under the leadership of United Nations help to cope with this problem. I am the CEO of the organization and am responsible for introducing the topic – bullying to the audience and the 5 basic questions of bullying. Then, Anna, being the researcher of the team, proposes a case study of bullying, which is a novel “Townie” written by Andre Dubus III, illustrating his childhood of being bullied by street gangs and schoolmates. Yet in this case, it showed positive consequence that he became more independent and physically strong to overcome the difficulties. She then showed a suicide note written by a victim, showing the worst result ever of being bullied and isolated as mentioned in his note. Joseph is the next speaker, who is an expert and professor for analyzing information and characteristics of bully and victim. He showed data of the occurrence of bullying during our early stage of life and the pattern of bullying like gender distribution. Personalities of the bully are the opposite of the victims; such as being submissive as a victim and possessive as a bully. The purpose of outlining the significant of the bully and the victim is to arouse the attention of audience and identify whether people beside you have the similar problem. The earlier the discovery of these problems, the easier to reach the solution. The stage is then passed on to Anson, who is the manager of our team. His job is to show the short term and long term effect of bulling, with the resolution to pin-point. Last but not least, I will be doing the wrap-up of the whole presentation – call for action. We believe that the problem – bullying is still there if we don’t fix it, yet if we could take the first step or stop bullying, more victims will be revealed and minimized the impact on society. “Where
