In "The Life You Imagined" and "Dreams From My Farther",
Derek Jeter and Barack Obama use a variety of writing strategies to convey their goals.
Both texts describe their childhood dreams and goals, however each author uses different
writing styles such as academic vocabulary, cause and effect, colloquial vocabulary and

for example in the story "Dream from my father" on page 69 paragraph 1, are talking about figurative
language, In the paragraph it says that "It was only then I understand that I had spent much of my
life trying to rewrite these stories, plugging up holes in the narrative, accommodating unwelcome details,
protect individual choices against the blind sweep of history, all in the hope of extracting some granite slab

also thanks about figurative language in page 62 paragraph 1 It says that " I was 14 years old but i
looked 12 because of the twigs i had for arms and legs. (Jeter) . An example of cause and effect is
"Dreams for my father " Is on page 72 and paragraph 13 , it states stand "barry learns his father will
visit school to speck ." Also "he's embarrassed by his father african heritage." (Obama) . In the story
"The life you imagine " Jeter sets a goal to be a high school player, he works out , becomes a high
