Anancy and Brother Wasp
Anancy and Brother Wasp

Once upon a time Brother Wasp was a very handsome man, especially when he laughed because he had two pretty rows of teeth. Yes, Wasp used to have teeth. Now, Wasp was very proud of his teeth. Sometimes he would grind them, sometimes he would shine them and sometimes he was glad to bite somebody to show them how sharp they were. And even when he was supposed to be serious he would laugh or smile so he could show his beautiful teeth.
At this time, Anancy was a postman and every day he had to carry a bag full of letters from house to house. And every day he would pass Brother Wasp on one corner or another showing off his teeth. And because Anancy hated hard work he was always looking for a way to get out of it.
One day Anancy was carrying a big bag of letters when he met Brother Wasp with a crowd of people showing off his teeth as usual, and he decided he was going to find a way to mash up Wasp's life, and his teeth.

FROM NOW ON, GRANDMA ZELA TAKES UP THE STORY......

Leopard was Anancy's boss. He was greedy and, even though he made his employees slave hard he hardly cared about them, no, only about money. Anancy was lucky, that day it happened to be Leopard's birthday so his was in a kinder mood than usual and was allowing most people the day off. Anancy spent all day scheming a plan, and once ready he put it into action. He traveled to his fellow friend, Kwasi Answe's house. Kwasi was a farmer who grew the best sugar cane and cocoa in his village. 'Hey if it isn't my friend Anancy!' Kwasi shouted, greeting his friend with a smile. Not long after Anancy walked away with a bag of sweet sugar cane. He stopped at a nearby market and bought some coconuts and continued on his journey home. He woke up the next morning and set off for work. As he delivered the mail, it didn't take him long to bump into Wasp once again surrounded by a crowd. 'Delivery for Brother Wasp,' Anancy shouted as loud as he could above the noise the crowd was making. The crowd made way and as soon as he knew it, Anancy was face to face with Wasp. He handed Wasp the package addressed to him. 'What a surprise,' Wasp said. He opened the package and stared at the sugar cane and coconuts. He immediately handed it back to Anancy. 'I don't eat hard foods for the sake of my teeth.' Anancy stared and pretended to study the foods carefully. 'This variety and type of coconut and sugar cane are very rare you know.' He told Wasp. Wasp suddenly looked interested, 'Really?' Anancy nodded his head. Wasp hesitated, 'I guess I could try it to see how it tastes.' Anancy handed the foods back to him. Wasp had a strict diet to keep his teeth in shape and good condition and sugar cane and coconuts were definitely not in it. He took some sugar cane and bit it. As soon as you knew it, he bit more and more. Suddenly there was a deafening crunch and the crowd looked at Wasp with worried looks. He held his jaw in pain and looked at Anancy hatefully. 'My teeth! You did this didn't you?' Anancy decided that this was the time to walk away. 'I'll get you Anancy!' Wasp shouted after him. Anancy smiled. Everyone he tricked always said that to him but of course they never got round to it. After all he wasn't called Anancy for nothing.

Neil Gaiman 's Anansi Boys tells a coming of age story of protagonist Charlie Nancy as he is influenced by his brother, Spider, who he meets after their father 's sudden death. Throughout the novel, Gaiman develops Charlie as a shy character who is afraid to put himself out there into a self-confident trickster who learns to be comfortable in his own skin through many interactions with his brother. In this mythological story, the author outlines the relationship of these two by causing Spider to create stressful situations that push Charlie out of his shell and to take control of his life. It is evident throughout the novel that Charlie 's character consistently develops into, like Spider, a more positive, confident and charismatic person, one by which fits into the Nancy family reputation.…
