Analyzing Rocky Marciano's Boxing Career
September 1, 1923, Rocky Marciano was born Rocco Francis Marchegiano in Brockton Massachusetts. He held the heavyweight boxing title for four years in the 1950s during his career. He is also the only champion to retire undefeated. His mother's name was Pasqualena and his father's name was Pierino. His father worked at a shoe factory to provide for his family.

As a typical American kid, Rocky spent a lot of his time playing baseball and football with his friends. He would also dream about having a professional career in one of those sports. Marciano didn’t take up boxing until after 1943, when the Army drafted him. Rocky took up the sport to avoid KP and other activities that didn’t interest him. "I thought it was a mistake when Joe Louis tried a comeback." New York Times quoted him as saying. "No man can say what he will do in the future, but barring poverty, the ring has seen the last of me. I am comfortably fixed, and I am not afraid of the future." Marciano said he wanted to spend time with his family. After his retirement, he made money from personal appearances.

The day before his 46th birthday which was August 31, 1969, Marciano died in a private plane crash near Des Moines, Iowa. He was survived by his wife of 19 years, Barbara, and their two children, Rocco Kevin and Mary Anne. Although he may not rank in the top five boxers of all time in terms of skill, speed or power,

Rocky Marciano was the inspiration for the name and the fighting style of Rocky Balboa. The character from Sylvester Stallone's American classic Rocky movie series. The character dreams of becoming just like his hero Rocky Marciano. The movie also has a necklace of a boxing glove made from a cuff link given to Rocky from his trainer Mickey who had received it from Marciano himself.
