Introduction
Policies are pivotal implementations put in place by the government on local, state, and federal levels. There are endless amounts of policies put in place by the American government, with many of these policies directly influencing the lives of citizens. As the 2016 Presidential Election draws near, understanding the policies projected by each presidential candidate is essential to making an educated decision when it comes to voting for the future condition of the United States. When looking at the reform in general, it is clear that Donald Trump is trying to increase jobs and productivity for American citizens. As many know, Donald Trump is a businessman. As a businessman, he knows how to make profit based on making decisions and persuading people to give him money. His decision when it comes to dealing with illegal immigrants is no different, for by deporting this population of people, more American citizens will be given better opportunities of employment and higher wages thus providing an outlet which may spur an increase in employees who work for his enterprise. The more workers Trump has for his business means more productivity thus leading to an increase in profit. Through research, it appears as though Donald Trump and the Republican Party agree on many aspects of the immigration reform. For instance, the Republican Party supports Donald Trump’s three core principles of immigration reform. This support is seen in the Republican Platform of 2016, for it states that “In a time of terrorism, drug cartels, human trafficking, and criminal gangs, the presence of millions of unidentified individuals in this country poses grave risks to the safety and sovereignty of the United States. Our highest priority, therefore, must be to secure our borders and all ports of entry and to enforce immigration laws” (Republican Platform, 2016, p. 26). Also, the Republican Party strongly agrees with Trump on the idea that there should be stricter punishment for immigrants who break the law, for the Republican Platform of 2016 states that “Any previously deported illegal alien who continues to show a lack of respect for our borders and rule of law must be penalized” (Republican Platform, 2016, p. 26).
