Gaius Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC for many reasons. Many people, especially his opponents had feared his power and dominion in Rome, he declared himself as Dictator for life, this made him a king in all but name. “ Why, he cuts off twenty years of life/ cuts off so many years of fearing death “ (III. i. 101-102).
