Introduction. We are in a heavily demanding athletic world that everyone feels they are entitled to money for their skills and that it is never too early to be paid millions if they think they deserve it. These athletes are infatuated with the life of the professional league players and the life these players live. The amount of money they make, the cars they own, or the houses they live in are a few of the things these athletes want. If the NCAA starts to pay elite players at the highest level, then they should also have to pay the players at the lowest level. There is no difference between these athletes, other than the school they play for and their skill level. They are all students who play a varsity sport. Every one of these athletes goes through rigorous practice schedules, long seasons, and high demands no matter what level you play at. Every team has the same goal of winning a national championship, so how could you pay the top players and not the lower ones if they are all playing for the same championship title?…

If colleges were to pay athletes there would be no fair way to distribute the money. Athletes perform their sport at different levels of ability and for various lengths of time. In addition, not every player is able to compete in a game. Problems would arise about the athlete not playing which would not allow for him/her to receive the money they deserve. The first issue about this problem is that some people believe that athletes should be paid based on an open market system. This idea of an open market system would allow for supply and demand to come into play. In addition, a school would be able to pay their scouted athlete based on the money that comes in because of their ability. However, The payment would vary depending on the market along with the deals that each athlete has with the school. The second issue is about the colleges because not every college can afford the players they want to recruit. In 2013 the NCAA had an investigation on the economic stability of Division 1 sport programs. This study showed that out of 288 Division 1 schools only 23 were running their programs in a profitable way. This means that only those 23 schools had the money to pay a college athlete. In our society, any business not profiting from anything is likely not hiring, and there is no idea…

There have been major discussions recently if college athletes should or shouldn’t be paid while they are in school. Once you get a sport involved, there are politics, injuries, and a call to the office to tell the player, “thanks, but we don’t need you on this team anymore.” Many players will get a scholarship for a year or two, and then transfer to a different school which returns out to be a better situation. A $25,000 scholarship may seem like a lot of money, but it really only covers the basics, such as books, tuition, university fees, housing and a meal. The point of this is that a scholarship doesn’t equal cash in a player’s pocket.…

With March Madness dominating the headlines and airwaves, it’s difficult not to admire the passion and effort of these nineteen year old athletes. However, while the marketing of, and revenue from, the tournament continues to grow for the television networks, the NCAA, the participating universities and their coaches, the NCAA athletes participating in it are expressly prohibited from collecting any financial compensation at all whatsoever. There is the argument that NCAA student-athletes should not be paid because of an opportunity provided to pursue a free higher education not given to the general public; but the assertion has several flaws, not the least of which is the extensive time and energy demanded…

Richard Sherman, a premier athlete in the NFL, is what one would want to see in a student athlete. In high school, he was the salutatorian(second in his class) and graduated with a 4.2 GPA, while putting in the demanding hours required to be an elite athlete. He attended Stanford and continued his academic excellence, while maintaining that NFL prospect status. In an interview, Sherman was asked his stance on college athlete treatment: “While student athletes are being offered a free education, they do not have the time or enough opportunities to take advantage of that education. These athletes are being cut short and not getting what they deserve.” They are given a scholarship for school, yet they are expected…

The topic I chose is “Why are college athletes not being paid for playing sports in college while others around them are?” College athletes are like other professional athletes only thing different is they are one level under professionals and they are not being paid. The athletes are not being paid for their entertainment, but they are doing just about everything a professional athlete is doing such as being on television, playing on holidays, and being exposed to the media. This topic was chosen because I want to address the similar things both professional athletes and college athletes have in common because at the end of the day if this situation was vice versa, then the media would be wondering why professionals are not being paid, but college players are. Both College Players and Professional players should be paid because they both have the same effect on the world.…

Majority of the sports world knows about College basketball’s biggest event, which is March Madness. They could probably tell you how many points, rebounds, and assist their favorite player has each game. However, what they don’t know is that most of these college athletes go hungry every night throughout the season. While many college athletes are given a scholarship and other grants they are only provided limited meal plans. For example an excerpt from an Internet article states that “The semi finals—broadcast exclusively through Turner Sports' family of networks including TBS, TNT, and Tru TV grossed 16.4 million viewers total. Kentucky versus Wisconsin became the most-viewed college basketball game of all time on a cable network.” ("7 Common Sense Reason Why College Athletes Should Be Paid (According To Jay Bilas) ", 2015…
