Analysis Of The Six Lithographs By Jasper Johns
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) that recognized thirty thousand collections of modern and contemporary art, which includes painting, sculpture, photography, and architecture. That was the first time I'd been to the SFMOMA, and I was very excited to see the amazing artworks. I attracted by the colorful abstract artworks, which had no representation of visual reality but instead use shape, color, and form to achieve their effects. One of the interesting artwork is the 6 Lithographs by Jasper Johns, which has six lithographs in colors of red, blue and yellow on Rives BFK newsprint gray paper. Johns's work was mute and static, and it apart from occasional objects references to his own life. In addition, he painted mostly

Jasper Johns was born in Georgia in 1930 and grew up in South Carolina. After moving to New York City to pursue a career as an artist, he found fame in the 1950s for his paintings of flags, targets, and other ordinary objects; this work was a change from Abstract Expression and helped usher in the Pop Art…

On Tuesday, November 2, 2004 I attended the San Antonio Museum of Art. The painting that left the most lasting impression was Diego Rivera's "La Siesta." The painting, a "snapshot" of indigenous Mexican life, had the biggest reaction because of my Mexican background. I also chose this painting because Diego Rivera was a Mexican artist.…

What uniqueness Roy Lichtenstein presented is the content of his Pop Art works, Jasper John presented in his choice of materials and medium. Jasper Johns grew up in Georgia, in a place where he claims he was never exposed to art as a child and so he had no foundational idea of what art is or should be. This undoubtedly led to the choices that would make Jasper Johns a visionary of the Pop Art scene. After having a dream of the American flag, Johns began incorporating the image of the flag into his paintings. His second most famous rendition of it, known as Three Flags, probably epitomizes Pop Art’s fascination with using materials that were common and mundane. The American flag was an image that nearly every American was all too familiar with,…

The Modern Art Museum is truly a place of awe. Being that it was my first time attending such an extravaganza, I was first amazed by the hundreds of people that were there of all ages and ethnicities. Then I was even more struck at how everyone was filled with a distinct love and passion for the arts, as smiles and camera flashes illuminated every floor at Moma. Aside from these truths, all of the different paintings, drawings, photographs, and their creative nature was also in itself truly astonishing. However, despite all of the pieces of art that I saw at Moma, the famous Henri Matisse works stood out the most.…

I took a trip to the art exhibit because I knew this would be right up my alley. The art installations were fantastic, and explored the People, Land, and Creativity of California. The temporary glass work exhibit was my favorite. No photographs allowed (by the time I found out, I had already taken seven photographs) and its mature content so preferably no kids allowed. But to my surprise there were tons of kids. The first art work that truly caught my eye was Fortunato Arriola’s “Tropical Landscape” (1870.) The social realist painting consists of green and blue shades as the scene takes place at a river bend. The golden frame (which is 48 in HIGH x 76.75 in WIDE (121.92 cm HIGH x…

The exhibit that I viewed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art was one about European Art between the years 1100-1500. This was a series of paintings, sculptures, architecture, and tapestry of the Medieval and Early Renaissance as well as objects from the Middle East. This exhibit was an important part of the history of the Philadelphia Museum of Art because for the first time, Italian, Spanish, and Northern European paintings from the John G. Johnson collection were shown. It gave me a good idea of what the paintings were like in these four centuries and reflected ideas of both the east and the west.…

I think that Jasper Johns' earlier work was more plain and just "there" while his later work was much more diverse. Some of his later paintings were extremely colorful and vibrant while others made you depressed by just staring at them. I also believed his later work took much more skill on his part. I find that the painting of the United States where it is very colorful and somewhat smudgy is great because it is very pleasing and it makes you wonder why he picked a map to paint. While some people think that his paintings did not take any skill and anyone could do them, I do not think that. Some people could reproduce his paintings but no one could have thought up the ideas in the first place but Jasper Johns.…

While I was in the museum, I spent most of my time looking at paintings and I found the painting of Saint Gertrude by Miguel Cabrera to be quite beautiful. Painted in 1803, Saint Gertrude’s face appears quite serene to the viewer and has religious appeal as well to those who are Christian or Catholic. The serene expression on her face makes her appear very beautiful in a motherly way in my eyes. And while I was there, I saw a marble statue known as Semiramis by William Wetmore that was carved in 1873. This statue has a classical feel to it and I adore statues that look classical because it makes them appear timeless. And it is that timelessness that gives the statue beauty. Though it appears fragile, I am sure it will be seen by many for many years to come. The last work of art that I enjoyed was an oil painting by John Sargent, which was titled Dorothy and it was made in 1900. What I like about oil paintings, is that it is a media that allows for the painter to create realism. The painter gives life through a range of colors, which you can see when…

I also appreciated Storr’s mention of Agnes Martin. Although Storr did not describe Martin’s work in great detail, her name sounded familiar to me and her minimalistic style sparked some recollection. After a google search, I realized that I had seen some of Martin’s work in Taos, New Mexico at the Harwood Museum. The works shown there include the faint blue and white horizontal lines of Ordinary Happiness and a few other works that I don’t remember quite as well. It’s really turning out that I’ve seen paintings and pieces of art by many famous artists and have never realized it; they’ve just never stuck. I’m going to try to start paying closer attention when I’m looking at art.…
