Analysis Of The Non-Commission Officer Academy
During the Non-Commission Officer Academy was when I interact with group thinking and learn how to adapt quick to others. This course made it more challenging due to the wide dynamic personality and different career fields with same rank. The majority of the classmates have been in a position power. It took couple of weeks for some members to become followers and the others to be in a leader position. The members that had issues we use the “team pressure to conform” (Adler, Elmhorst, & Lucas, 2013, pg. 206). Those members were just focusing on petty tasks. For example, we did not agree to which charity we were going to volunteer, so we keep reminding them that it was not worth it. After few weeks into the course and surpass the team building

    During the forming stage, the team showed hard work ethic. Rules were put into place that all members agreed to keep. The rules mainly consisted of communicating any issues, and have the assignment done to be put together two days before the due date. Assignments were done with ease. The quality of work was excellent, and finished on time. As assignments started to get harder the team moved into the storming stage.     I do my best to maintain a good rapport with my team members. I would say that they are comfortable approaching me if they need assistance. I encourage them to learn and accept new tasks assigned to them. I don’t stop to make everyone an in-group member in our unit. However, based from my observation, I will find few team members who are not motivated to excel themselves not because the leader isolates them from the in group members but because they prefer to be in the out-group situation. They choose to do less because they don’t want additional responsibilities. Nevertheless, I am a persistent charge nurse, I assign them new tasks to accomplish so they can benefit from the learning experience.     Throughout my time in the military I have been able to be under the leadership of both good and bad NCO’s. The good NCO’s showed me the right way to do things. While in Afghanistan, one of the two team leaders really showed what it means to do the job. If I had difficulty carrying out a task he’d either show me how to do it properly, or a more efficient way of doing it. But he did it in such manner that I began to figure it out myself.     Working with others to achieve same goals is a challenging process. As an individual within a group of people, you need to make sure that you are using the best of them and avoiding their weaknesses. If I did not use good leadership skills, I would probably gain the negatives from the group work. In order to do so, I had to reflect on the leadership models I have learnt in the leadership course.
