Analysis Of The Goldmine Of Comedy
The goldmine of comedy, created by Greg Daniel and Michael Schur, Parks and Recreation, is a seven season long mockumentary. This show stars comedians such as Amy Poehler, Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones, and Chris Pratt. Amy Poehler plays Leslie Knope, the Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation in Pawnee, Indiana. Her assistant, Tom, is played by Aziz Ansari. Together, they solve many of Pawnee’s problems, gathering more members for their team along the way. Through seven seasons, many heartbreaks, and even more laughs, Leslie Knope grows her family and climbs up the professional ladder. Although it is a unique series, Parks and Recreation has many similarities to The Office such as the cast, the plot, and the style. The first episode aired on …show more content…
Both of these series have Golden Globe nominated actors and shows. The Office takes place in a paper company while Parks and Recreation takes place in the city hall of Pawnee, so the main characters are co-workers who become friends. The boss of the Parks and Rec Department is Ron Swanson, a manly man who hates vegetables, hippies, and communism. He is also quite intelligent, unlike the boss from The Office, Michael Scott. Michael is an opportunistic dreamer who loves everything about his job and his co-workers (except Toby). These two bosses bring different dynamics to their respective audiences, but both Ron and Michael are dedicated to what they do and value friendship over all. In addition to cast, The Office and Parks and Recreation both share similar plots. The shows start out focusing on one person: Leslie Knope for Parks and Rec and Michael Scott for The Office. However, throughout the show, the audience becomes more accustomed to supporting actors. After a few episodes, The Office seems to take interest in Pam and Jim’s relationship. Parks and Recreation starts to focus on the friendship between Ann and Leslie as well as the growing relationship between Andy and April in the second …show more content…
Jim and Pam’s relationship was a staple of The Office from the end of the first season, while Ben and Leslie didn’t even meet until the fourth season. Both Jim and Pam and Ben and Leslie had a spontaneous wedding after the viewers planned on seeing the wedding they had been planning for months. Both of these couples worked together, and that caused some issues in their relationship. For most viewers, the biggest similarity between The Office and Parks and Recreation is the style in which they are presented. The series’ are presented as “mockumentaries” which are shows that are styled as if they are documentaries, but the actors are aware that they are acting. This style has been showcased in many movies including The Confederate States of America, Death of a President, and Borat. In fact, these series are produced by Emmy winners Greg Daniels and Michael

Goethe’s Faust and Voltaire’s Candide were two of the most interesting books that I have ever read! Both comedies were very different from each other in many ways. The structure of both books varied significantly. I enjoyed Candide more than Faust partially due to the structure. I found that because Faust almost entirely rhymed that it was harder to follow. It was very distracting to me and I felt as if the rhyming took away from the story. Candide was told more like a story and I found it easier to follow because of this.…

Think about your coworkers. Who is the first one to come to mind? Is it the kind person who always covers your shift when you’re sick, or the irritating one who never does their job? Whether positive or negative, you likely have a much stronger relationship with or opinion about that person than you would if you didn’t work with them. The same is true for many coworkers, even in sitcoms. Through its depiction of the interactions between very different people, Scrubs shows that working together leads to complications but also strength in relationships.…

These shows are both extremely controversial in the situations portrayed on the television screen. Both shows use the monotonous aspects of small-town life as perfect settings for bizarre happenings. South Park is a collection of rednecks and yuppies, sociopaths and stereotypes. However, it is the group of children that carry the show through its humorous and sarcastic humor. Family Guy similarly live in the small town of Quahog, Rhode Island with a group of unusual people with eccentric cameo appearances. Both South Park and Family Guy focus their plots mainly on a central character. In South Park, it is the maniac Eric Cartman, and in Family Guy it is the loutish Rhode Island father Peter Griffin. Cartman's humor comes from his ridiculous schemes, his undeniable evil, his dismissal of reasonable courses of action, and his unforgettable voice. Peter Griffin humor comes from his clumsy ways, his poorly thought out jokes, and his parody of the average…

Not knowing about the writers of South Park and being a fan of the show, one might be surprised that the feature length film South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut is a musical, but the writing duo are no fair weathered music men. Matt Stone and Trey parker met in a film class in college. Upon connecting with good work chemistry, the two came together to work on Parker’s self written and directed movie Cannibal! The Musical. Trey has always had a love for musical theatre and he strengthen this passion and knowledge majoring in music at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Cannibal! Was their first shot at a musical together and with no surprise it was filled with ridiculous humor. The well known historical event is adapted with musicality and upbeat humor, such a twist on the dark story kicked off Stone and Parker’s knack of incorporating humor and music to convey darker subject matter and comment on it’s social constructs. After college and starting the hit TV series South Park, the couple’s love of the stage musical never died out. Often in South Park’s episodes characters would satirize pop culture or current events with a crude and humorous musical number. The two additionally created the puppet oriented movie Team America: World Police. Stone and Parker creating the main character as a Broadway actor and incorporating large numbers such as “I’m So Lonely” and “Everyone Has AIDS” creates a an extremely satirical atmosphere. The use of song amplifies the over the top humor directed towards everything from politics and the United States to Broadway itself (RENT becoming LEASE).…

Because the series revolves around the problems of the government, it is not very relatable for most members of the middle-class; yet the interactions that are found within the common workplace are displayed when the Parks Department employees discuss their work, co-workers, and personal lives. The fact that the show even delves into the characters’ personal matters shows that a connection is trying to be established between the viewers and the characters. Breakups, family, and new friendships are things that most people experience and can easily relate to. Knowing this, it can be said that the writers of the show are very aware of their audience and how they will react to the show’s plot, another element of Realism. Parks and Recreation inserts many current issues such as gay marriage, gotcha journalism, political affair scandals, sex education, obesity, and the role of women in politics into controversial circumstances. These topics are included in the show to spark conversation and interest on the subject. These issues, along with other events in the show, are conveyed in a highly comical manner. Councilman Dexhart’s sex scandal is completely shocking, as “when [the babysitter] was in the delivery room, [he] had sex with not one, but four nurses in a supply office…as well as a woman whose husband was getting a liver transplant” (“Christmas Scandal”). Although this is a satiric play on political scandals,…

Inferno section 1: Dante's journey through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Purgatorio), and Heaven (Paradiso) takes place in 1300, at the midpoint of his life. Dante sets himself as the narrator and main character of this epic poem. His flight through Hell begins in a dark and unknown forest. As Dante wanders through the woods he comes to a hill above which shines the first sunlight that he has encountered in the forest. But as Dante begins to climb the hill a leopard blocks his path. As Dante retreats, a lion and a she-wolf join the leopard in driving Dante back into the dark valley. Rushing terrified down the hill Dante encounters a shadowy figure. The figure reveals itself to be the spirit of Virgil, the master poet from Mantua who lived during the reign of Julius Caesar, before the coming of Christ. Directing Dante to take a path around the beasts on the hillside, Virgil becomes Dante's teacher and guide through Hell and parts of Purgatory.…
