Analysis Of Serano's Love Rant
The last reading consisted of Serano’s chapter, titled “Love Rant”. This chapter focused on what one may be attracted to, what they may love about an individual, and basically a rant with one of her male friends about what she would do/how she would feel if she found out her partner was a transsexual. My favorite line from this chapter was, “I am attracted to people, not to disembodied body parts” (279). I think I loved this line so much because I am an individual who is possibly so focused on body parts that it may cause myself to miss out on amazing relationships with other genders. I was raised to believe that girls are supposed to grow up and find a man, not a female or any other gender one may assign with. Until this class, and we discussed

Sexuality is a huge part of going through puberty and in most cases, it is a difficult thing to deal with. Julie Anne Peters makes this clear by showing the transition of Liam into Luna. Many children struggle with who they are, not just in terms of sexuality, and this book and unit caters to the adolescents who struggle with identity. If the purpose of literature is to share a common existence and provide a broader worldview, then this unit will help us perform that act, but this unit might also help a struggling young person find a sense of self.…
