A rapid and sensitive method has been developed for the determination of glucosamine sulphate from tablets by
UV-spectrophotometery. In this method, glucosamine sulphate was reacted with phenylisothiocyanate in presence of a base to yield phenylthiourea derivative. This derivative showed maximum absorbance at 240 nm. Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration range of 5-25 µg/ml. The method was validated in terms of linearity, precision
(relative standard deviation 1.1%), accuracy and specificity. The proposed method is the only method available for spectrophotometric determination of the drug. It is simple, precise, accurate, sensitive and reproducible and can be used for the routine quality control testing of the marketed formulations.

Glucosamine sulphate (GLS) is a water-soluble amine sugar that is extensively used in the treatment of various conditions of arthritis and collagen deficiency 1-4.
Literature survey reveals that the drug can be estimated only by HPLC5 and no spectrophotometric methods have been reported. The present study describes a simple, sensitive, accurate and precise spectrophotometric method for estimation of GLS in tablet formulation.
The reference standard of GLS was procured as a gift sample from M/s Meyer Organics Ltd., Thane.
Phenylisothiocyanate (PITC) AR grade was purchased from Fluka, Switzerland. All the other chemicals and solvents used were of AR grade. UV SL-159 Elico make spectrophotometer was used for the studies.
A standard solution of GLS (1000 µg/ml) was prepared in
0.1 M aqueous sodium acetate solution. (S1). Ten tablets
(Cartilamine®

The purpose of this lab was to identify an analgesic drug and to understand how to interpret infrared spectroscopy. The lab consisted of several steps, which include extraction, distillation and filtration. Based on the active ingredient crystals that were obtained at the end of filtration, the melting point was found. The active ingredient percent recovery was calculated and compared to the manufacturers claims. Next, the Rf value of the active ingredients were found through a TLC plate and compared to the standard of the drug. From these processes, the understanding of how organic compounds can be isolated and identified was possible. Although the infrared spectroscopy was not completed, the understanding and matching of structures with their proper IR spectra was still necessary. The main functional group peaks were used to distinguish several IR spectrums; these peaks mostly occur between 1600-4000 cm^-1.…

After first isolation of crude acetaminophen, 1.22g of light, brown shiny, fine Crestline solid emulated, which demonstrated slight less than 0.030g of product was lost from original 0.150g of p-aminophenol. The melting point range of crude acetaminophen ranged from 166.8-167.6°C, when compare to the known melting point of pure acetaminophen which ranged from 169.5-171°C, is slightly depressed. After decolonization of crude acetaminophen 0.060g of a very light tan/pink almost white, fine, shiny crystalline purified acetaminophen was recovered. Significant amount was lost; slightly over half was lost from 0.122g crude acetaminophen. Purified acetaminophen resulted in a much lighter coloration than the crude acetaminophen. Purified acetaminophen was slightly light tan/pink nearly white, whereas crude acetaminophen was light brown. After crystallization of acetaminophen, 0.028g of whiter, shiny, fine crystals resulted with no apparent odor. Slightly less than half of product was lost from 0.060g purified acetaminophen that was crystallized and about 0.122g was lost from the original 0.150g of p-aminophenol started with. The melting point range of the crystallized acetaminophen (166.1-169.8 °C when compared to the known melting point range of pure acetaminophen at 169.5-171°C is clearly depressed and elongated.…

A simple, rapid, specific and highly sensitive spectrofluorimetric method has been developed for the quantification of dabigatran etexilate mesylate (DAB) in bulk and capsule dosage form. A linear relationship was found between fluorescence intensity and DAB concentration in the range of 0.01-1.0 μg/ml in DMSO as solvent at an emission wavelength of 391 nm after excitation at 334 nm, with a good correlation coefficient (0.989). The detection and quantification limits were found to be 0.005 and 0.015 µg/ml, respectively. The proposed method was applied for DAB capsules, results reveal with percentage recovery of 102% and percentage RSD values were found to be less than 2 for accuracy and precision studies. The proposed method was validated for linearity, range, accuracy, precision, limit of detection and quantification according to ICH guidelines. Statistical analysis of the results revealed high accuracy and good precision. The suggested procedures could be used for the determination of DAB in bulk and capsule dosage form in quality control laboratories of industries as well as in academic institutions.…

Methods: The average between a new method and the gold standard is represented as a percentage of the gold standard. This is interpreted as a percentage similarity value and accommodates wide ranges of data. The representation of the percentage similarity values in a histogram format highlights the accuracy and precision of several compared methods to a gold standard. The calculation of a coefficient of variation further defines agreement between methods.…

A precise, accurate and rapid RP-HPLC method has been developed and validated for the simultaneous estimation of Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and Finasteride in tablet dosage form. Chromatography was carried on RP – 18e Hiber RT (250 × 4.6) column using Water:Methanol (30:70%) v/v as mobile phase at a flow rate 0.7 ml/min and the effluent was monitored at 225 nm. The retention times of Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and Finasteride were 5.4 and 15.4 minutes respectively. The limit of detection for Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and Finasteride were found to be 15 and 50 ng/ml respectively and their limit of quantification were found to be 100 and 1250 ng/ml respectively. Tamulosin Hydrochloride and Finasteride were found to be linear in the range of 0.3 to 10 µg/ml and 3.75 to 125 µg/ml respectively. The developed method was validated in terms of linearity, accuracy, precision, specificity, limit of detection, and limit of quantification as per ICH guidelines. System suitability parameters like number of theoretical plates (N), peak asymmetry factor (As), and resolution (Rs), etc. were studied and it was found that all results were within limits. The proposed method was successfully applied for simultaneous determination of drugs in tablets.…
