An Inconvenient Truth
The movie I saw was An Inconvenient Truth directed by Davis Guggenheim and narrated by former Vice President Al Gore. When I found out that this was Al Gore’s movie that everyone had made a big fuss about, I had the misconception that it was going to be boring. Al Gore has always seemed like a robot in terms of personality and I thought that this was a way to improve his public perception by using a new media. In addition, I thought that this movie was more propaganda to launch another run at the presidency. I was wrong. The movie captured my attention and I’m glad it was assigned for otherwise I may have never seen it.

An Inconvenient Truth was a documentary that focused in on the drastic climate changes in the world in recent years. The movie is about Al Gore giving a presentation to an audience and using several scientific provided films, Power Point Presentation slides, charts, graphs and animations. The presentation slides and films show how some of the glaciers and mountain tops which were once covered in iced and snow are melting. The bottoms of these mountains that were once dry landscapes are becoming lakes. The problem is with the melting of the icecaps in the south and north poles. The melting of the caps is supposed to raise the water sea level. A raise in water sea level puts in danger cities such as New York and other low lying cities of being under water. More important, the change in temperature is creating stronger storms such as Katrina. The movie showed a clip on the destruction Katrina caused. The message of this clip is that the heavy use of materials that produce carbon dioxide is producing drastic changes in the weather patterns.

The film was also about solutions. The former vice president does very well in presenting his argument. He lacked charisma during his run at the presidency, but in this movie he is very likeable and charming. In the movie Gore talked a little bit about why he is committed to this cause.

Controversy over global warming exists as a dispute regarding the nature and consequences of global warming. The theory of global warning as presented in the mainstream media currently assumes that carbon dioxide is an atmospheric greenhouse gas and since humans are producing more carbon dioxide than previously, the temperature must therefore rise. The cause of global warming is not actually known, but in it 's simplest terms the debate boils down to whether or not global warming is caused by human interference or part of a naturally occurring cycle. The debate has recently become one-sided in favor of human interference due mostly to three factors: political pressure on scientists to produce research that supports the global warming theory, public misconception of what scientific consensus is, and an irresponsible that media promotes sensationalized viewpoints to sell advertising.…

Gore opens his article with a dramatic approach, drawing the reader in by the serious tone he portrays, stating it’d be an “enormous relief if the recent attacks on global warming indicated that we do not face a calamity requiring preventive measures to protect human civilization as we know it.” Gore strictly focuses on “the reality of danger we are courting” and the causes and effects of this topic.…

The consequences of global warming, according to Al Gore in his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” are catastrophic to say the least. In it he depicts a world in which the sea level rises more than 20 feet, destroying nearly every highly populated city in the world. The average temperature rises significantly as a result of an overabundance of greenhouse gases. All dry land remaining becomes like that of a desert. The Gulf Stream and oceanic currents that we depend on completely stop and wind patterns change as a result of the dilution of the ocean. Finally, civilization as a whole collapses under the weight of the consequences we could have avoided. It is a truly horrific tale that strikes fear into almost every viewer of the documentary, as it did to me as well.…

The movie is truly an eye opener. It tells us that while we have not yet suffered the same fate as those in the movie, we can still try to prevent and hopefully remedy the situation. We can start with ourselves and maybe move on to the larger communities. Big businesses play a big role in our environment. If they were to pollute, expect pollution to come out in huge amounts. But if they were to become responsible and take the fate of the world into account, if they were to do their best to fight pollution and go green, we may actually see concrete…

This movie did a very good job of showing diversity in the American landscape. It showed the different ways of life and culture in another country we were at war with. It showed their everyday routines before and after the bombings. It showed how the war had changed their life and what it had done to their community. We got to see how we felt about the war in America and…

The movie was so interesting because I got to see the different ways Americans do to help save the Earth. Before we watched the movie, I didn't know that there were so many Americans doing their part. The top 3 things that attracted me most during the movie were: The Rooftop of the city hall of Illinois, the Bikes and the City Museum. To see a rooftop greenery in the middle of place filled with buildings and different infrastructures was a beautiful sight to see. It's like the beautiful scenery is calling you, saying " Hey! Rather than staring at me from faraway, make a greenery on your…

He took you into the behind the scenes of the White House after September 11, 2001. He showed you what kind of pressure was on not only the president and White House, but also all of the related institutions including the CIA. The biggest threat to America was Iraq and Suddam Hussein. As America eagerly waited a rebuttal or response from Bush and company, the president came up with a game plan. That game plan set the pitch for the rest of the movie. In justifying taking action against Hussein and Iraq, Bush addresses the State of the Union in 2003 alluding to Uranium’s use in building weapons of mass destruction. Was this true? This is only up to ones opinion at this…

I think he is the only one who has done something about gun arms, there has to be done more about it. I really think it is a great movie; it is the best documentary I have seen in my life. It is humorous and disturbing, and I believe Michael Moore planned this out – to amuse and scare the viewers at the same time, while watching this movie. I gives him thumbs up for choosing such a hard subject, but still making space for a little bit of fun. That is extremely good.…

This documentary has made me think about issues that I have never had to think about before, for instance, health care. Having medical insurance in America is more important than young people fail to realize. “Sicko” is an interesting, informative, sad yet at times funny movie. Michael Moore’s style is serious with a little sense of humor, so that the movie wasn’t so intense and gloomy. Moore is showing us the health care system through his eyes. He clearly likes to make documentary movies that bring light to matters in the world that some people know nothing about. This was my first documentary movie I have seen and I would definitely be opened up to watch more.…

The documentary “Capitalism: A Love Story” by Michael Moore was extremely interesting. At first I thought that it was going to be just another boring documentary, but the way he presented his arguments, and his point of view was very intriguing. It opened up my eyes to a lot of underlying issues that have occurred or are currently occurring in America that many people are unaware of. Three major aspects of the documentary that stuck out to me were the fact that American textbooks and made Ronald Reagan seem like such an “economy saver.” It definitely did seem like he was a hero, but in actuality, the upper class were the only people who benefited from his tactics. The second part of this documentary that was interesting to me was the fact…

The things I found interesting about this documentary are that I got to learn some of the ideas that other cultures and religions go by, I learned that the US is considered a Christian nation which I didn’t know until I saw this, and I heard answer to questions that I never actually paid attention to. There were many topics discussed with people of different religions and each had a different view and response to them that it made me think if what I think about is actually right or wrong. Some topics that were brought out were about the world ending, does God exist, was the Virgin Mary a virgin or not, is there a devil, are gays accepted by god and others more. There were a few questions that were answered that bothered me, not because I found them misappropriate, but because the responses were a bit out of reason. For example, the man who used to be gay is against gay people and thinks they are inappropriate now that he is straight. Everyone is free to be who they are and be who they want to be with, but I just found this to be a bit hypocrite from his part…

What is particularly good about this film though, is that it could very well serve to educate children and the clueless about sustainable development since it is very much simplified.
