English 1102 Examining Yourself as a Writer The art of writing is a unique skill that requires the writer to have great flexibility and be open to improvement. Some may consider themselves a “perfect writer”, when in reality, no one is, and will ever be. Writing is a process that requires one to continuously build on skills learned in previous situations, applying new techniques and strategies to future writing projects. Different settings require different writing styles, and with that being said, one must be willing to change their writing skills to suit the requirements of their current setting. In the following essay I will reflect on past writing assignments, identifying my best and worst writing courses, strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and my opinion on why writing may or may not be beneficial to me throughout my career.…
In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…
I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…
English Writing Experience English is not my native language; my experience in writing was very minimal, I starting writing when I came to college.…
My Experience as a Writer It all started when I was just a little kid. I began learning how to speak and use our language. I watched learning videos teaching me how to talk properly and use different words. Once I reached first grade, we began writing very simple sentences and learning the basics of writing. By the time I reached Elementary school, we learned about the sentence structure and we began making more complex sentences. We also started writing paragraphs and short essays. When I reached Middle school, we began writing longer essays and we learned how to write in more detail. We started learning more advanced vocabulary and different styles of writing. We learned mostly about fiction, non-fiction, and persuasive essays. In my freshman and sophomore year in high school, we discussed the other types of writing such as poetry, persuasive essays, letters, opinion papers, and speeches. We wrote an exceptional amount of poetry and opinion essays last year in literature. Now I am beginning my junior year in high school and we are writing very long essays that are more descriptive. We are going to learn about rhetorical strategies and techniques. We will also learn more about expository and analytical writing. This is the very long process that I have gone through to become the writer that I am today. Now I will discuss my growth and experience as a writer.…
This semester I think I'll learn how to become a better writer by strengthening my knowledge in the use of advanced rhetorical devices, adding more depth and analysis to my body paragraphs, and by attaining a higher level of maturation in my writing. I'm hoping that taking this class now will translate into successes later in life when it's required to exercise the abilities I have and will continue to develop. My definition of nature would be anything that exists without the innovations man has created. Examples of nature can be found anywhere, from the canyons such as the Grand Canyon, Mountains like the Sierra Nevada, or Waterfalls such as Niagara Falls. Nature can be found in homes because of the existence of pets, plants, and trees all…
Everyone has strengthens and weaknesses when it comes to writing. I myself know I am not a very strong writer, but a strengths I do have is once I have begun to write the creative juices get to flowing. The biggest weakness I have when writing is my grammar and punctuation I just can’t seem to get my paper perfect. I hate but love to write. The only reason I say I hate to write is because I can hardly ever figure out how to start off my paper. The biggest reason I love to write is because I love to share my stories and creativity. My best writing experience is when I write something personal and important to me. Anything that has to do with my daughter or my family I can defiantly elaborate on. Once I start writing about personal experiences…
March 16, 2013 Writing has never been my favorite subject in school; I have had to write in many different forms throughout my life. I have written different items from essays to emails. I have had good experiences and bad experiences. My different experiences in writing have been story writing in high school, Science lab reports in my previous college and writing corporate emails at work.…
When faced with the task of writing all the concerns I had with writing, it came across as easy to write down things I felt unsure about. When I was done, the paper was crumbled and the doubting words about my writing were thrown away…literally. I thought this assignment was a bit inane and that crumbling the paper I just spent my time working on would make me feel substandard, but surprisingly enough, I felt relieved that I didn’t have to face my concerns anymore. It made me realize that I am in this class for a reason and that I am here to work on my writing skills as an individual. If I have any problems or concerns I can contact my professor and work on the skills I feel like I am lacking.…
I began to write composition in my highschool years. Firstly I was taught to writecomposition by preparing outline and then regulating it. Our english teacher gave us varioushomeworks on different topics. Firstly we used to write it in Turkish then translate it intoEnglish, so we could make a lot of mistakes. It was either a report about a book we read, movie we watched, or a topic from the teachers sheet. But he always wanted to us obeygrammatical and punctuational rules while writing, althought we didnt know these rules verywell. Therefore I could only write in a limited way with a limited knowledge I had. On noaccount was I excited to write in highschool because I felt like I was forced to writesomething. It seems like there would have been a time in these years when I would have hadthe opportunity to write about something I wanted to write about. However, with all the otherwriting assignments we had to do that didnt excite me, its hard to remember the goodones. It changed a little when I was second class. Our new teacher introduced some newthings.Sometimes he handed out our classmates papers to us which I liked very much, wecould have experiences by seeing their mistakes. Sometimes he asked to us analyse his ownwritings and we had the chance get some different ideas about what kind of details acomposition must include. I liked this teacher but I still wasnt contended. When I entered theuniversity enjoyed getting the chance to express myself in writing. With the helps of my newcomposition teacher I learnt a lot of new techniques about how to write a composition. Ourcomposition teacher asked to us make brain storming before start to write a composition. Itwas very hard to convey all my thoughts and feelings to just a simple piece of paper beforethis course. Our teacher gave us the chance to express ourselves in writing. Thus, by usingwriting, we can have a tangible outlook on who we are as writers and more importantly, whowe are as individuals. Thanks to my…
My attitude towards writing can be reflected in an interview that Sheila Gross had with Writers Living, “There’s no secret. It’s a combination of things: faith, hard work, and determination. This business is not for the faint at heart. The key is to never give up, even when faced with obstacles or rejections.” In the early days of when I was starting college, I was afraid of English classes and anything to do with writing. However, now being a Computer Science major, I have learned to appreciate writing. In my career, I have to be able to write policies, memorandums, and write to formal letters to people, especially those that are ranked GS-12 and higher in both the civilian and military world – writing formally has become a must in my life. Therefore, it has become an exciting time for me to have my mind engaged with the various works that I am doing and being able to put those thoughts onto paper.…
Experiences as a Writer My experience as a writer as another individual in society and being student in school writing is a part of life. Living in another state and being so far away from family I write my love ones back home because a letter can mean more than a phone call sometimes. Going to school writing is everyday thing between assignments and taken notes every time you write your writing skills get better. Certain jobs require written answer on their application in order to get hired. I’m pretty sure in the career I’m choosing ill encounter question that require writhing answer. Writing to me is a valuable ability. It plays s a major role in communication. Under certain circumstance an individual may person could be in the military away to basic training or overseas and don’t have access to electrical devices.…

The last writing piece I did was my college essay. It was my final essay in High school which was probably a year ago. My teacher used to always write me comments on the margins of the papers so I can fix them and make them look better. The only type of writing that I could count as writing is texting, I don’t really like to write but texting is much easier for me. The form of writing that I usually like to go with or use when I feel when I feel a creative impulse is the figurative form of writing, because it usually gives my writing an overtone and makes it more interesting. I feel lost every time I sit down to write because I can never figure out a way to start my writing piece. What I like about my writing is my honest, truthful and persuasive way in delivering facts and thoughts of my own and of others. What I see as occasional or recurring problems in my writings is the failure to not use enough adjectives which results in me having to write more than what’s needed; in order for me to explain my thoughts and that causes me to lose my train of thoughts and ideas. I remember a specific writing experience that left me with a failure in the beginning of my junior year at high school. My teacher assigned us to write a persuasive essay regarding a social problem that effected a community, and I decided to go with the Palestine-Israeli conflict. Due to my decision of choosing this touchy and very debatable topic, I had to research a whole lot and learn more about it. This way I can deliver my idea in the best method possible. However, after getting my paper back it said I had an 89% and that made me feel disappointed in myself.…
