An Excerpt From The Diary Of Anne Frank
n the Diary of Anne Frank it shows how Anne Frank strived and wanted to stay alive. Anne Frank lived in fear and hiding. She kept a diary of how she faced each day like her last. She kept going even though it was tough. Her and her family never knew when they would be caught while hiding. This was very scary for the Franks. In an article written by James Ryan it shows how even when Anne died she wanted to live. A quote was used that Anne Frank said herself “I want to be useful or give pleasure to people around me who yet don’t really know me. I want to go on living even after my death.” Anne Frank wanted to be helpful and go on living after death. This shows the quote “just keep swimming” by how Anne never wanted to give up she wanted to live forever and push on. Ryan also wrote about how Anne was always positive. In his article it read “Despite the uncertain and uncomfortable conditions in the the annex, Anne managed to maintain a positive attitude throughout the ordeal.”. Frank always stayed positive as she could throughout the holocaust. She tried so hard to keep a strong front and …show more content…

Hamilton never gave up when trying to surf again. She strived to get back out there. In the same magazine it talks about how Bethany kept her head up after the accident and didn't let it bring her down. Bethany practiced and practiced. She wanted to be back in her board right away. In the book Soul Surfer; a book Bethany helped right herself it talks about even when times were tough she kept trying and trying. “Courage doesn't mean you don't get afraid. Courage means you don't let fear stop you.” The shark attack didn't keep her from doing what she loved. She just needed courage from herself and

Bethany decided to surf at Tunnels Beach, Hawaii, even though the waves were not a real challenge for her. As Hamilton lay on her surfboard waiting for a wave with her left arm hanging from the side, a tiger shark attacked her without any warning. It took a seventeen inch wide bite out of the surf board and her arm. In the ferocious fight for her life, the shark tore her entire arm off just below her shoulder before vanishing. Hamilton quickly swam to shore only using her remaining arm and Blanchard’s father used a surf leash as a tourniquet to help stop her from bleeding to death before she was rushed to a nearby hospital. This incident seemed to end Hamilton’s goal of being the greatest woman surfer and it almost ended her life. She had lost almost 70% of her blood that morning, but she didn’t give up the fight to…

Through her story of faith, persistence, and confidence, Bethany Hamilton has illustrated to millions how to strive for the seemingly unachievable. At the mere age of thirteen, Hamilton experienced something life changing: having an arm bitten off by a shark while surfing. Surfing had always meant the world to Bethany, in fact, her career as a surfer was primarily initiated because of her parents (Hamilton 7). From the moment Hamilton reaches the board, an inexplicable connection sparks. Bethany said “I’ve tried to explain why I feel the way I do and it's impossible. Only surfers get it: the rush, the addiction, the way it stirs your heart, plays with your head, and tortures your body (Hamilton 119) .” Although at times there were downsides, being the youngest of three and the only girl had its benefits. She always engaged in similar activities and the outcome was that she learned to be very ambitious and was always driven to be the…

    | Anne says this in frustration after Mrs. Van Daan yells at her for spilling milk on her coat. This expresses another Anne because it suggests that Anne sees herself changing, that she envisions a different self. I feel that Anne says this because to her, everybody in the Annex shows more favoritism to Margot then her, especially her mother. On the outside it seems Anne can’t always control her temper, as she strives to be more like Margot, who is patient and calm. On the inside, she is jealous of Margot, wanting to have more of an attitude like hers, and convey a better personality to others, contrary to what she’s done. Also Anne is younger, so it is understandable that she'd look up to an older sibling. I can relate to this because many times in our family, I feel as if my parents favor my older sibling over me. I have the same feelings as expressed in this quote, as it is hard to be more mature than somebody older. This quotation suggests change in Anne, as she herself wants to change, and be more socially civil rather than her normal self. Though it conveys negativity on Anne’s character, as she is losing her temper, it also shows maturity, as she is maturing. This quote shows that she is maturing because she now realizes her impact on others, and wants to be more like Margot, who is quite a role model to her. Some questions that occurred were: * Will Anne keep maturing as she is already? *…

Bethany Hamilton loved to surf and be in the water. She was just a normal teenage girl whose dreams were coming true. Until one day while she was out practicing for a big competition she got bit by a shark and it took her arm off. It was very difficult for her to deal with after she healed. But she never gave up. She was so independent she wanted to do everything on her own without any help. She wanted to surf again. She was told it wasn’t possible but she had faith and hope. All these children and teens from around the world sent her mail and it made her want to prove that just because she lost an arm doesn’t mean she needed to give up. She and her dad practiced everyday trying to build up her strength so she could surf again. They worked on special boards to help her stay up instead of falling right off. It was a very big challenge for her but she finally did it she could finally surf again. This book is so inspirational. It shows you not to give up on your dreams even when the go and gets tough. I would highly recommend this book to every one of different ages. This is really a great book and I really enjoyed it.…

In the story “The Diary of Anne Frank”, there's a sense of symbolization when Anne writes. For instance, Anne symbolizes faith when referencing the Star of David in her writing. Goodrich writes, “ I know. I know. But after all, it is the Star of David, isn’t it?”[pg. 709]. The symbolization of what Anne writes about is breathtaking because she symbolises the Star of David as being a sign of faith. Even though it is not stated that it does, it is clear that she has a strong belief in the Star of David. In addition to, there is also another mighty word that has symbolism, Nazi or Hitler. Goodrich writies, “ As my family is Jewish, we emigrated to Holland when Hitler came to power.”[pg.703]. Hitler was known as one of the greatest Nazi’s with…

She has learned that through hard times she can still find the happiness in life and can focus on them. Anne did not just make it through challenging times, she thrived through challenging times. We all should notice that no matter what was going on, Anne was seeing the joy and good in not only life, but in people as well. She showed us who she really was through this life changing experience. Anne demonstrates that we should keep our head held high when we face the struggles of life. If Anne Frank can see the good in things while being persecuted, I know I can. I have learned from the Holocaust that no matter who you are, what you look like, your race, religion, or anything you can think of, we are equal. Now you are probably thinking, “shouldn’t she already know that?” The Holocaust has helped me to see it in a different way. It also showed me how cruel and selfish humans can be and how cruel and selfish I can be. A lesson all humans should know is that we are one. We are equal. Anne once said, “‘I don’t think of all the misery, but the beauty that still remains,’”…
