An Essay Application to the Firm of Scrooge and Marley
Samuel Huo London, England
12/24/35
Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge
Firm of Scrooge and Marley
1234 Marleybone lane
London, England Dear Mr. Scrooge:
I have read your ad in the paper and I am interested in a position as an accountant for your counting house. My associates tell me you are a remarkable businessman in need of an accountant and coincidentally I am looking for a job as an accountant.
My skills as an accountant were widely praised when I was apprenticed to your former co-worker Dick Wilkins. I am not in great need of money due to the fact that I’m working for experience only so my salary will be negotiable. I am a fast, neat writer and I’m even very good with cooperating with others.
I urge you to consider my application and I’ll be available for work by Christmas Eve .Thank you for your time and if you wish to have a reference please refer to Mr. Dick Wilkins or Mr. Daniel Boorstin. I look forward to meeting you in person so we may discuss in further depth about my resume.
Sincerely,

Samuel Huo

A rough childhood plagued Ebenezer Scrooge and was the root cause to his adult behaviors. He spent most of his time in solidarity and developed a resentment of society. The tyranny of his father did not help, who drilled the importance of money and financial security into Scrooge’s brain (Morris 4). The Ghosts of Christmas made Scrooge relive all his hardships growing up in order to help him move on. They succeeded because Scrooge realized that if he didn’t change his lifestyle, he’d end up like Jacob Marley, “dead as a door-nail” (Dickens 1). Ebenezer Scrooge was an outcast; however, he was not evil.…

Scrooge is described as “covetous old sinner” and is associated with cold, ice and snow. He believes that poverty could be avoided by hard work, he has lost all empathy and compassion for anyone, and thought that the prisons and the workhouses were well suited to deal with the poor. Two men come to collect charity money from Scrooge and Scrooge replied that he ‘can’t afford to make idle people merry’ and that the poor should die quickly to decrease the surplus population. Dickens uses this scene to show the reader that Scrooge does his own thing in his own world, and that he doesn’t care about anyone but himself.…

Set in the 1840s on Christmas Eve, A Christmas Carol chronicles the personal transformation of the protagonist, Ebenezer Scrooge, the proprietor of a London counting house. A wealthy, elderly man, Scrooge is considered miserly and misanthropic: he has no wife or children; he throws out two men collecting for charity; he bullies and underpays his loyal clerk, Bob Cratchit; and he dismisses the Christmas dinner invitation of his kind nephew, Fred. Moreover, Scrooge is a strong supporter of the Poor Law of 1834, which allowed the poor to be interned in workhouses. As he prepares for bed on Christmas Eve in his solitary, dark chambers, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley. In life Marley was very similar in attitude and temperament to Scrooge: remote, cruel, and parsimonious. In death he has learned the value of compassion and warns Scrooge to reform his ways before it is too late. Marley announces that Scrooge will be visited by three more specters: the Spirits of…

“God save you Ebeneezer! And a merry Christmas to you!” bellowed a voice from the window. Through the foggy glass, Scrooge could make out the rather large outline of none other than Peggy Harker, a worker at the local orphanage. Scrooge crinkled his nose in disgust and shooed her away with a flick of his hand. Peggy Harker, persistent as the rain during a wet monsoon month, continued to say “My oh my, it is extremely cold… mind if I come in?” in which Scrooge acknowledged with a harsh grunt.…
