Odysseus was a very effective leader. The first example was when Odysseus devised a quick, and cunning plan in the midst of chaos during their imprisonment in Polyphemus’ cave. A leader’s great leadership is the key to success. When Odysseus commanded the men to do as his plan follows, they listened, which resulted in their success in escaping the cave. Odysseus put himself on the line to protect his men day in and day out. He knew about the Sirens and how perilous they are “ Then all at once the wind fell, and a calm came over all the sea, as though some power lulled the swell.” (Homer, The Odyssey part 2). The Sirens make men jump off their ship if they hear the beautiful breathtaking voices. Odysseus had his men tie him up to a pole on the ship and made his men put wax in their ears so they don’t hear the voices. His men would know when it was safe to take out the wax when Odysseus calms down and doesn’t move or do actions like he want’s to jump off the ship. This shows an infinite amount of leadership and bravery from Odysseus because he sacrificed himself for the good of his men. He…

Odysseus, in Homer’s The Odyssey, displays both strong and weak leadership skills in certain situations. Odysseus stays protective and caring but isn’t very trusting or open to his crew. He doesn’t tell his crew about what the prophet said, and what was in the bag from the Wind King. When the crew was on the Island of the Sun God, Odysseus blatantly said for them not to touch the cattle. Yet he failed to explain the consequences. Since his actions illustrate both strong and weak leadership, each even affected the way Odysseus would lead the crew.…

There are many qualities of becoming a good leader, selfishness is not one. "Real leaders must be ready to sacrifice all for the freedom of their people"- Nelson Mandela. Odysseus' journey home was all about himself he ordered his crew members to find food and fight for him, as he would never fight for them. Some think that Odysseus was a great leader because of his mind, but if he was so smart, why would he let is crewmates suffer. Odysseus was not a strong leader and ultimately contributed to the destruction of his own men by, not warning them about what Charybdis and Scylla where going to do, and he should have warned and stopped his men from killing the sun god's cattle.…

First what makes Odysseus a good leader is his strength, courage, and determination. In the story Odysseus shows strength when he has his men tie him up to listen to the Sirens. “Therefore you are to tie me up, tight as splint, erect along the mast, lashed to the mast and if I shout and beg to be unties, take more turns of the rope to muffle me.” Odysseus shows courage by pep talking his men into going to Scylla and Charybdis . “ Friends, have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome is it now, then when the Cyclops penned us in his cave? What power he had! Did I not keep my nerve and us my wits to find a way out for us.” This is when I realized that Odysseus was courageous. Lastly Odysseus shows determination by never giving up what he has started. “Now by the gods, I drove my big hand spike deep in the embers, charring it again, and cheered my men along with battle talk to keep their courage up: no quitting now.” These characteristics show that Odysseus is a good leader…
