In The story "In the American Society" mainly illustrates the life of the Chinese immigrants in America, Ralph Chang's family. Ralph has a Pancake restaurant, and it was pretty successful at first. But being treated as servants, the workers in his restaurant quitted their work. Ralph realizes that he is not able to adjust in American society, not like his wife and kids. His children actually have grown up in America, and his wife is good in fitting in the new life, so they are not having hard time in America. Trying to fit in the society, he attends to a pool party, but still he is not able to fit in it.
When I compare with these two stories, I think there is a great similarity of the theme providing for others in need. Pete provided a lot of financial help to his brother Donald. He gave Donald money, which is he needed badly. And Ralph Chang in the story “In the American society”, He provided jobs to a group of workers that were in dire need of work and they were not even legal citizen. He also bailed them out of jail when they were arrested by the US Immigration Office and treated them like his own sons. I think that Pete and Mr. Chang was kind of that rich people. They had very good life and they do not have to help people or provide them cares. However, they helped other people by providing them money, jobs and tried to get them out of
