Amy Eilberg Rhetorical Analysis
During Rabbi Amy Eilberg’s talking workshop, we explored experiences of estrangement, conflict, and enmity in our own interpersonal relationships, workplaces, communities. The thing I found the most interesting to me was the quality of being a peace seeker. Knowing that she helps synagogues and Jewish organizations place the pursuit of peace in interpersonal relationships at the center of their communal mission, she is the ultimate peace seeker. Qualities of a peace seeker are having kindness, compassion, generosity, self-awareness, humility, curiosity, respect, courage, and equanimity. Being kind towards one another will give you a good peace of mind and if you're kind to others they will be kind back to you. Compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another person going through a tough time in their life. Having generosity is going out of your way to do something nice for someone …show more content…
The topic my group talked about was the temporary immigration ban that President Trump ordered. I thought this was a good topic to talk about because being from south Florida there is a lot of hispanics and that may be a big problem for some of them. I thought it was very good for me to listen to my partners opposing views on it and compare our thoughts on deporting immigrants. I thought the mirroring part of the workshop was very well because you get to know if you're partners actually listened to your opinion and my partners listened very well to my opinions. One more important thing Rabbi Amy spoke about was that the idea that we are all just one and that if you hurt someone else it’ll just come back to you. This is a good lesson to learn and it will bring about a lot of good change in society. One other thing I learned from this workshop was the true definition of a hero. Something else Rabbi Amy Eilberg touched upon was her idea of a hero. She explained a hero as someone who is able to hold back from acting

In closing. I enjoyed this panel of speakers. Each speaker was well- rounded in their field and had a lot of incredible points to make. I feel that each speaker could have incorporated more photos or videos to show the hands - on type of work they do. This event felt a little rushed, therefore, I would recommend extending the timing of this…

The excerpt from Mary Oliver’s “Building the House” serves as a way to describe what happens during the poetry writing process. Although Mary Oliver believes that writing poetry is hard work, she uses extended metaphor, juxtaposition, and point of view to describe the writing process in comparison of building a house, which shows that Oliver sees poetry as something that involves mental labor which is a different challenge than physical labor .…

Sara thought she was never going to be able to work to fund her education and lost all hope. With the implementation of DACA her dream of receiving an education at UCLA became a reality. Another speaker that stood out was a second year by the name of Erika. Erika’s mother suffers from the mental illness Schizophrenia. Her mother was deported and arrested for being undocumented and Erika’s upbringing was tough. Erika closed her presentation with a quote that stayed with me, it goes as follows “you do with what you can or have”. No matter how tough the circumstances are in life you have to deal with what you have and continue living. My friend Josh had the privilege to speak in front of the audience and it was nice hearing what he had to say. He made good points about the citizenship test. He said that the citizenship is bullshit and that it is crazy how the government makes people from different countries learn about the history of U.S. United States citizens probably would not pass the test if they were tested. I believe that injustice is prevalent for undocumented people and there needs to be a…

Dave Chappelle returns to his hometown of Washington D.C. in the year 2000, during his tour around the country, to perform for the people of D.C. During his show “Killin’ Him Softly” Chappelle effectively uses rhetorical strategies by engaging his audience, understanding the culture he is addressing, as well as exemplifying the problem with racial stereotypes and the disparity of police brutality between the African American community and the white community.…

The presentation was a health campaign that I chose to do on kidney disease. My initial idea was to develop materials to communicate relevant context. The underpinning approach taken for my learning event relates to Kolb’s experimental learning cycle. This concrete experience was central to the design of the session and there was also an opportunity for the group to reflect on and share thoughts about their experience. (Reflective observation). This reflection was observed from my peer evaluation form.…

I believe that the rhetorical strategy of narration is both seen differently in the article, “Unnatural Killers”, by John Grisham and the article, “The Case Against College Athletic Recruiting” by Ben Adler. Both appeal emotionally to the reader but one is a lot more logical in its approach then the other.…

Well-known Sci-fi writer, Ray Bradbury, in his novel, Fahrenheit 451, illustrates that relationships reflect who individuals are and who they want to be. Bradbury’s purpose is to promote the idea that a person should have the courage to listen to their own beliefs and thoughts of happiness rather than to blend in with society. He adopts a disoriented and poetic tone in order to appeal to similar feelings and experiences on a non-realistic scale in his young adult readers.…

Therefore, Halverstadt argues that one's conduct during conflict management is central to bringing about peaceful resolution in a Christian manner. Halverstadt creates a three-step model, which includes how to become a conflict manager, how to appraise conflict situations, and finally how to manage conflicts. This model prescribes working with conflicting parties by encouraging and applying behavioral standards such as respectfulness, assertiveness, accountability, and a focus on the common good.…

I was glad to have Holly Green & Christine Kapral as guest speakers in our class on Tuesday. I felt what they had to share was great for reconnecting what we have been discussing in class (such as the causes of poverty, the working poor, or raising children in poverty) using firsthand experience as examples. I enjoyed seeing how much effort they both put into the presentation, I would have given them my attention regardless but it is nice to have the extra materials and visual elements in a presentation. Their presentation certainly made a good impression of Columbia River, and I was personally impressed by the vast amount of services offered by Columbia River and its employees.…

In last week’s class I truly felt like the class had some of the best conversations we had ever had, at least in my opinion. I had a really great conversation with my small group about some of the previous readings and how we at times, felt awkward due to having far different opinions of the readings than our other classmates, especially when it came to the parenting books we had read, such as the one discussing how to come to terms with having an intersex child. I also really enjoyed how the clinical graduate students and the counseling graduate students helped explain why disorders such as gender dysphoria and gender identity even existed within the DSM. All in all, I felt like the whole class really came together and had a great conversation…

LGBT issues really caught my attention. I was never cared or thought about people are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender until I took this class. What really caught my attention was Paula’s story. That was very touching, and I felt bad for her. And I realized that probably many people have most likely gone through what she went through; especially with your family. Your family are the ones who love you and are always suppose to be there for you and when they are not there for you when you really need them at a time like that.…

However, in today’s world, peace and harmony face various threats. Terrorism, regional imbalance, economic disparity, and social inequality are some of the factors which threaten peace today. We all are so engrossed in our busy lifestyles and yet want our lives to be peaceful. We expect that peace to be omnipresent but what we need to realize is the fact that if we want peace- we have to live peacefully, love everyone, forgive, forget, etc.…
