Culture is one of the most important and basic concepts of sociology. E.B. Tylor defines “Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, Jaw, customs and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society”. (__________) Culture is learnt socially by man. It is not an inborn tendency. Culture is is a product of society. It originates and develops through social interaction. According to our text, culture exists, as a continuous process and is cumulitive. Culture is the system of shared values, beliefs, and behaviors that make up a society’s way of life.Culture is made up of language, beliefs, religion, government, laws, clothing, food, education, money transportation. Culture is also made up of different types of family systems.
The American Culture is what is known as a mixing pot. People of the American culture come from all over the world and there is no set belief or way. In this paper I examined the differences and similarites between the American and Chinese cultures.
The U.S. society is made up of a diversity of ethnic groups and cultures that have helped shape American values. Some individuals and groups have a set of respected values that are quite different. Americans are considerd indivdualist. There is high values placed on being self reliant and free. People of this culture are more comfortable dealing with people of their same social class, or ranking. They feel they fit in better with those of their own "kind". Americans tend to be task oreinted and believe in getting the job done. From experience I know that Americans have noproblem confronting an issue, expressing their feelings and are very strong willed.
