American Psycho
American Psycho:

Character development:

Patrick Bateman is a fine working man, who is a part of the company Pierce and Pierce. Bateman is what you would call a yuppie, a person who has a lot of money to use, one who really thinks of what he is wearing. It has to be the best of the best.
The reason for doing the murders he does, is because he is upset with the world that he lives in. He actually hates himself and everyone who ruins the world, and that is the people he kills.
He start out by killing a few people one by one, but at the end he goes onto a rampage and he has to tell people about.

Ending:

The ending leaves the viewer with the question “Did he really kill these people”. My expressing is that he didn’t, a scene in the movies he drags a body right past a security guard with blood trailing past him. Yet the guard doesn’t notice anything, as there was no murder.
The only place the murders takes place is in his head and in his book, where there are drawings of everything. That’s also why he can’t figure out where he has been when the detective interrogated him about Paul. According to his colleagues he were attending a dinner with them, but he can’t remember that and has to lie because he believes that he was the one who killed Paul.

Society’s norms and values:

Each state in USA has a lot of rules/laws. Patrick hates the society he lives in and that is why he goes insane and “kills” these people. Bateman wants to be the best, we see that through out the movie, even a small business card can make him loose it. He works to be the best, and if that doesn’t make him reach the American Dream he has to kill a few people

General concept of evil:

The general concept of evil is when you are doing a bad thing. It can be a bad thing against other human beings, your self or the world. But just because you’re doing a bad thing doesn’t mean it isn’t a good thing either. Drinking alcohol is a bad thing for your body and brain because its

He killed a man with one dead eye for his pleasure. “I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture.”(Pg. 1) ”whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold.”(Pg 1) When the police knocks on his door he invites them in and shows them to the exact scene where the body lays. He gets very anxious and cocky about his plan because who would bring the police to the scene of the crime? This was a master plan. By getting them right where the body is no one would think a man was that…

Lastly, he does things for legitimately no apparent reason. When he killed the guy, it was because of how he looked and nothing else. For example, the narrator says, “I loved the old man. He never wronged me. He had never given me an insult.” (542). He brutally, relentlessly murdered the aged man because of his eye, just…

The question of why people may become murderers has been asked many times. Whether it is hereditary, chemical in nature, or for another reason, the answer is unclear. One possibility is that a person develops into a murderer through their upbringing, and present situation. Two examples of this are Jack from William Golding's Lord of the Flies who becomes a murderer, and the barber from Hernando Tellez's, "Just Lather That's All" who holds back from murder. It is because of their role in their group, their societal upbringing as well as their reasons to potentially commit murder, that they have different perspectives on killing; resulting in the varying choices they make.…

    The Killings by Dubus

How can one person decide to take a man's life? How can another man then decide to take a man's life in the act of revenge? Is there a difference to killing for the sake of killing or killing for the sake of revenge, or are they just two different shades of the same color? Many different people of today's society have differing views of what justice is, and how justice should be served to those who are guilty of such crimes as rape, kidnapping, or murder. "Killings", by Andre Dubus attempts to illustrate the life of the Fowler family after Richard Strout shoot's Frank Fowler. From the very beginning of the story, the seed of revenge is planted when Matt Fowler's other son, Steve says, “I should’ve killed him. He bit his lower lip, wiped his eyes…

    Charles Manson Psychology

A good portion of the reasons why serial killers have the urge to kill is due to different mental illnesses. An example of this would be Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD). Symptoms of this mental illness include “being abused, manipulation of others, disregarding right and wrong, often lying, a lot of times being violent, not learning from bad behavior”, and the list goes on and on (Mayo Clinic Staff). Most serial killers have these symptoms such as ted Bundy, Charles Manson, etc. so it makes it hard to find a reason why this wouldn’t be a piece of the puzzle in what makes them who they are. Charles Manson once said when asked who he was “Nobody. I'm nobody. I'm a tramp, a bum, a hobo, I’m a box car, and a jugger wang, and straight razor if you get to close to me” (Charles Manson). I think this shows a piece of his ASPD because at the end he…

A large distinction that separates serial killers from other murderers are their motives to kill. Normally homicides are committed due to disputes that range from family affairs, gang violence, financial difficulties, and disputes between lovers and between friends. "A psychokiller, I should make clear, is not a regular murderer. A murderer has a vendetta, a nice specific personal thing against his victim" (Corin 188). Unlike that of a normal homicide, serial killers are only driven by instinct and a desire to kill. Due to these sexual desires and the need to fulfill their arousing fantasies it often drives these individual to murder those who are complete strangers. Though serial killers only make up for one…

Serial Killers usually murder not for terror or revenge, but instead for the thrill of taking lives. Approximately two- thirds of serial killers find motivation by the thrill of power or sexual sadism (Buss 106). Serial Killers enjoy the excitement, the sexual satisfaction, as well as the dominance and power that they achieve over the lives of their victims. On the other hand, the reason mass murders kill can range from revenge to hatred. The most publicized type of mass murder involves the indiscriminate shooting of strangers in a public place by a lone gunman. Many massacres are considered suicidal rampages because before the gunman takes their own life; the gunman intends to get even with everyone he or she holds responsible. Thus, showing even though mass murderers and serial killers have different reasons for the actions they take, the reasons are still beyond understanding for…

He told on himself out after he pretty much got away with the murder. He told on himself because he thought they could hear the man's heartbeat like he claims he can. This is called shallow affect and impulsivity. He almost got away with it after using a lot of confidence. Having a lot of confidence is thinking you're superior to everyone and that he thought he knew what he was doing. Then he ruined it by claiming he was already caught because he thought he could hear the man's heartbeat and claiming so could they.…
