American Civil War Video Analysis
The American Civil War was a war that helped form America into that it is today: A land of freedom, hopes, and dignity. It is such an astounding war, that children today learn this within their history classes. The Civil War consisted of many events that can be hard for the human mind to comprehend all at once. Therefore, students must grasp an overview first to further enhance their learning. There are so many videos outlining and overviewing the Civil War today, but which one is the best? Hopefully, my thoughts and opinions will influence you to evaluate the video explaining one of the most significant events in American history.
The video that I believe was the most useful and most informative was called “American Civil War: History, Key Figures, and Battles” posted by WatchMojo.com on October 20, 2011. I liked this video best it goes into depth of historic battles and their significance. Knowing the events of the iconic battles, the turnout, and how each side was affected, helps me differentiate between each battle as well as remember them.
This video also was well informing because it introduced to me key figures of the Civil War and their role in war such as General Robert E. Lee leading the Confederacy to numerous victories as well as Abraham Lincoln

In fact, more than half of the video consisted of him explaining dates that happened and lead to the Civil War. The causes of the Civil are extremely important, however I wanted more details on the battles, the generals, what happened after, and how it affected the United States. Those details highlight exactly why the Civil War made our country how it is today. This video consisted more of dates than details of the actual civil war itself. However, now I realize that if I wanted a little more depth of the Civil War, it would have been in my best interest to watch a longer

The effect that was made in the students facing these problems in their schools was very terrifying, some of them were in a point of being embarrassed of their heritage. They were embarrassed of being Mexican Americans, and this was something that had to be changed. The rise up of the Chicano students to demand their district officials for equal education rights in their school, was a movement that made the Chicano voice strong not only at East LA but all over the country. This is one point everyone should be able to understand, the video gives us the struggles Mexican Americans were facing at the time, and how they became together to overcome this issue is an example of unity something that we need to do now a days to become stronger and make our voices heard as a…

Most important battle in Civil War. “No other campaign and battle in the was had such momentous, multiple consequences as Antietam.”(P.155) The battle has a significant role in the Civil War. “It is the beginning of the end of the rebellion; the beginning of the new life of the nation. Is one of those stupendous facts in human history which marks not only an era in the progress of the nation, but an epoch in the history of the world.”(The Emancipation Proclamation P.140) Without this battle, slavery maybe still continue to the present. “What might have happened without Antietam could well have been a different story.”(P.154) And the United States may be divided into two . The cost of this campaign is great. All battle casualties most. Or sacrifice many soldiers wounded in this battle. “Night fell on a scene of horror beyond imagining: 2,108 Union dead and estimates ranging from 1,546 to 2,700 Confederate dead on the battlefield; 9,549 Union wounded and estimates of 7,752 to 9,024 Confederate wounded. Of the wounded on both sides, at least two thousand would die of their wounded.”(P. 129) They use their lives in exchange for the freedom and happiness of the people today . Soldiers in the battle worthy of admiration . Although at the end of the battle , civil war still going on. But the battle determines the northern army 's victory. “GREAT WICTORY. Must take its place among the grand decisive conflicts of history… Its effects will be seen and felt in the destinies of the Nation for centuries to come”(The New York Times P.135 ) After the battle , Lincoln announced the " Emancipation Proclamation ." The liberation of black slaves , and gave them freedom. The concept of " everyone is equal, everyone has freedom…

The Reconstruction video was very interesting. Slaves was very excited to be freed that some just walk off of plantations. But knowing that there was so many freed slaves Abraham Lincoln had to do something. With the freed blacks so comfortable with their forty acre and mule which was promise to them, they taught that would’ve been their life. But when President Johnson pardon the plantation owners and they could’ve get their land back it was an issue for the freed blacks. One problem was the law Black Codes that as passed which David Blight stated “the laws was passed to control, restrict, and constrain the lives of the free people. Especially rendering them bondsmen on the law.” This law was crazy to me that they wanted to put the…

During this video, I became more and more frustrated. I have briefly understood what white privilege was growing up, but I had never heard it in this detail before. I could not believe that this was how this came about. I was shocked to find out that it started only briefly slavery came about. I thought that once the African Americans came here to the…

It is a common belief among many historians that history is told through the eyes of the winners. Read any American history book or any world history textbook and they mainly tell you about the hero that saved the nation such as Wellington at Waterloo or General Washington in the Revolutionary War or General Patton in World War II. The case of the American Civil War is no different, especially for a man who changed the war. Ask anybody in the south, even the kindergartners and they will tell you about William Tecumseh Sherman, the man who burned everything. Ask anyone in the North and they’ll tell you how Sherman and Grant together helped the North win the war. General William Tecumseh Sherman constantly said that he disliked war yet when his time came in the Civil War he rose up from a man who was dubbed crazy to become a man who changed war into a concept of total war and would go on to become one of…

The professors book helped me to understand the truths of the Civil War and introduced a critical view of the war never presented to me before now. Previously, I had been taught and held as truth that the Civil War was fought for slavery, economic purposes, and won by the industry in the North overpowering the agriculture in the South. History books, documents, and movies never told the actual truth, only the bold glory of…

The American Civil War was truly a unique war in American history as well as world history. It stands as one of the worst, if not the worst, stain on the history of the United States of America, and should be studied to find how things managed to go so wrong so that the horrors witnessed will never be seen again. Perhaps the worst mistake was that the American people woefully underestimated how truly devastating the American Civil War would become and unfortunately by the time Americans came to this realization it was too late.…

The video we watch regarding the veterans from 761st really sparks a lot of questions within me. I never quite understood why African Americans fought to defend a country that was not their native land. Nor could I figure out why they would want to defend the same people who enslaved them and ignored them even after they helped them win the war. However the video was really insightful because it allowed me to see that we truly are the reason America is so great and without us it would have crumpled. This video shows that if we wanted to make this black america because we have put more into this society than the white man ever could. It was very sad to see that even though those African American males were the reason they won the battle, they still did not get credit until years later.…

The majority of people that grew up in the United States remember being taught about the Civil War in elementary school, and received the abridged version of history from the Civil War period. Many teachers simply state that the Civil War had one cause: slavery, or if the ones being taught live in the south: state’s rights. However, despite what many believe, the Civil War that took place from 1861 to 1865, truly happened in a time span of many more years, and had a multitude of causes.…

As Tony Horwitz illustrates in Confederates in the Attic, the Civil War is far from over. Horwitz, determined to find the answers to this conflict, treks through the South, seeking to explain man's longtime obsession with a war that divided the nation. Talking to historians and Civil War reenactors of all kinds, he finds that people are still divided today when it comes to the war and present issues in society. He collects a vast amount of data, which proves to make things very difficult in drawing a general conclusion. Horwitz learns how differently the south views the war, discovers the way in which people use history to suit their own needs, and explores issues of race.…

First, I want to say that I loved the first documentary about George Washington and the rest of the presidents from the Revolutionary Generation. Despite being the first President of the United States and not knowing exactly what he should do, George Washington demonstrated amazing leadership skills in his two terms. The fact that G. Washington never got the chance to serve on Washington was quite ironic to me. Besides that, I loved to learn about how Jefferson embraced the simple things in life (like wearing slippers at home, even when he had guests), but I was also shocked to learn about the rumors of his affair with Sally Hemings, that’s something I’d never expect from an important figure like him, but we’ll never know if this was true or not. Finally, here is a fun fact I liked from the documentary: Back then eating ice cream was a privilege, and Dolly Madison’s (James Madison’s wife) favorite ice cream flavor was oyster…oyster! What a weird taste but hey, to each his own!…

I agree with your statements of the March to the Sea. However, Sherman knew that the Confederacy got their strength from the moral support of the southerners. So, in that ensure destroying them will destroy the Confederacy. Also, the soldiers could burn Barnes and wrecked bridges before the army could reach them. Furthermore, Sherman’s and his troops made it hard for the Conference to fight back. Additionally, agree with you without what Sherman did slavery would’ve probably carry on a little longer, good post.…

I learned many new things from this video. I learned that many people died in the black’s non-violent revolution for freedom and rights. I also learned that most African Americans were paid an average of only about $700. African Americans were denied education at all white schools, and were only allowed a less than average education at black schools. Under the Supreme Court ruling in Brown vs. Board of Education, a number of African American Honors students integrated Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Every day they had to endure abuse from a huge angry mob that protested integration and wanted segregation. I feel that I would not have been able to put up with all that abuse. Those nine students that integrated Central High had great determination and never gave up hope. I also learned that it was a very long and hard struggle for all blacks during the Civil Rights Movement. The KKK terrorized blacks and killed them. Many African Americans were killed before they won the rights that they deserve. I was very proud of all the African Americans that participated in things like the Montgomery bus boycott because it showed that they weren’t afraid of standing up for themselves. I felt joyful that they always had the courage to stay non-violent, because if they turned to violence, the situation would not have turned out the same way. Now I will do anything that I can to eliminate discrimination of anyone because it is a very serious and destructive…
