There are numerous long term and short term events that caused the Civil War to occur. From the long term impacts of slavery and the Missouri Compromise to the short term effects of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Bleeding Kansas, the Civil War was caused mainly by one significant step. Although Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Dred Scott had an impact on the civil war, it was not as significant as the election of 1860. The election was the most important event because it lead to the secession of South Carolina and also because of the drastic differences in ideology between the north and the south. The Dred Scott decision would lead to the ratification of the 14th amendment.*…
In the mid-1800's, many events occurred that increased sectional tension between the Northern and Southern states of the Union. These tensions ultimately resulted in the outbreak of civil war. One thing in particular that is considered to be a source of sectional discord is the U.S. Constitution. However the Constitution itself was not a source of sectional tension that caused the failure of the Union. The failure erupted generally from the issue of slavery. combination of the people in general and the differences in economic styles that lead to the downfall. Poor political decisions such as the Kansas Nebraska Act, lead to bad decisions which worsened the tensions of the union. The economic differences ultimately lead to the Civil War because it was the driving force that caused the differences between the North and The South.…
Slavery and political alienation of the slave states made them result to secession, which was the…
“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” This statement that created by President Abraham Lincoln demonstrates the necessity of the Civil War. If the United States were to remain divided, the strength of these two nations would be degraded and allow the continuation of an immoral practice; slavery. “Politicians, business leaders, newspaper editors, and others desperately sought a last-ditch compromise that would keep other states from following South Carolina...no compromise on Earth could reverse the election of Abraham Lincoln and the Southern fears of a “Black Republican” administration” (Roberts 50). As various groups split within the nation, the…

" The divided states, that of the North and South, fought against each other, to finally end the dispute whether to accept or abolish slavery. “In all history, no nation of mere agriculturists ever made successful war against a nation of mechanics”, William Tecumseh Sherman explains to his southern friend about how the Confederate army was destine to be defeated by the Union. The American Civil War was a dark time in American history caused by the main issue of slavery, which lead to other issues relating to states’ rights, economy, and tariffs. The North defeated the South which led to roughly 4 million slaves gaining their freedom. The Union army was victorious in the war due to their industrial economy, transportation methods, and population.…
The American Civil War, was fought from 1861 to 1865. It was caused by the disagreement over the future of slavery between the industrialized North and the agrarian South. That dispute led to secession. The North’s initial political objective was clear: to restore the Union. Later, emancipation, or freeing the slaves, became another objective. The Confederacy (South) wanted its independence. The Secession led to the Civil War. The victory of Union in the Civil War was a product of many factors. Yet three most notable ones are: the “simultaneous pressure” of the North, offensive-defensive strategy of the South, and the crucial victory of the North in the Battle of the Antietam.…

And, so southern US began to secede from the US Union between December 1860 and June 1861 and came together to form the Confederate States of America.…
America split away from Great Britain for the sole reason that the people were not treated fairly. Ironically, in America where everyone was free, slavery was legal. Although many people believed it to be moral, there was an equally big population that did not. This created a big division between the two regions of America. The North and the South were two enemies on different sides; this held true when the Civil War took place. But even so, there were lots of conflicts that led up to the war. The issue over slavery grew, and spread to other things, directly affecting them. Things like the economy were affected, and also created a greater gap between the regions. “The industrialization of the northern states had an impact upon urbanization…
If asked, most people would blame as the cause of the civil war the issue of slavery. This is understandable; many people in the U.S. at the time were against slavery, going to far as to help runaway slaves escape to the free north. But, while slavery at face value was a major factor, international politics and economics played a major role. Several factors, including the election of Lincoln, the raid on Harper 's Ferry, the Dred Scott decision, and, most importantly, the fugitive slave law, contributed to the growing rift between the North and South and, eventually, the Civil War.…
In the North, the corruption in the government was spreading to the White House. Officials were taking bribes and collaborating with corporations for money. There were more pressing issues, as well. While President Johnson was in office, Congress was populated by Republicans; especially Radicals, who greatly opposed every idea by the president. The feeling of loathing was certainly mutual, as Johnson vetoed their proposals, and dashed their dreams for a New America, a lot. Very little got done. However, both Congress and Johnson were in agreement that the South was being stubborn and causing disputes. In order to be resubmitted back into the Union, it was agreed upon that the states had to restore their constitutions and accept the new laws that the US government had passed during their absence. Three states refused to ratify the amendment abolishing slavery under certain conditions, and South Carolina denied the fact that the Civil War happened at all. Freedmen reported not feeling safe in their Southern homes. The headache of uncooperative states sent Johnson into a position of lost sympathy and national clown. The South’s election of old leaders sent the Republican’s heads spinning, and they were too busy with an attempt to impeach Johnson to notice the lack of actual construction below the Mason-Dixon line. The Radicals had their own ideas how to handle the South, with plans of universal suffrage and military…
