America's Re-Election of Barack Obama as the 44th President

America keeps moving forward as, President Barack Obama was re-elected as our 44th President on November 6th, 2012. The whole election was a back and forth between the two candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. But Romney’s gaffes and strictly conservative views contributed to his defeat from President Obama. A major factor that helped contribute to Romney’s downfall occurred on October 3, 2012 at the first presidential debate. President Obama Mitt Romney says "I'm going to stop the subsidy to PBS. ... I will eliminate all programs by this test, if they don't pass it: Is the program so critical it's worth borrowing money from China to pay for it? And if not, I'll get rid of it." (CNN, 2012) This statement shocked America’s families as most children were raised watching and learning from shows like, Sesame Street, Mr. Roger and The Reading Rainbow. This crucial statement aired everywhere and created chaos in Governor Romney’s campaign and across America. Not only did Americans take offense to Governor Romney’s statement but so did PBS. PBS responds by saying, “We are very disappointed that PBS became a political target in the Presidential debate last night. Governor Mitt Romney does not understand the value the American people place on public broadcasting and the outstanding return on investment the system delivers to our nation” (PBS, 2012). PBS advances with their argument by saying that the T.V shows on the network have helped with life lessons and educate children all over the world. When Sesame Street was created as well as other children's show on PBS, producers and children psychologist joined together to see how to make shows that not only helped children but educated them as well. It is proven that when education and entertainment are used together it helps a child learn better without even knowing the child is learning.
