The US after 9/11
September 9th, 2001 was described as a sunny and cloudless day. It was a completely normal day for citizens in New York until American Airlines Flight 11 and Flight 175 disturbingly flew straight into The Twin Towers. This came as a big shock to the whole world, pictures and videos people saw through hundreds of different news channels, looked more like a movie scene than reality. In total there were four planes were hijacked by the Islamic extremist group known as Al-Qaeda, two of them were heading to take down The Twin Towers while the third plane hit the Pentagon, lastly the fourth flight (Flight 93) crash-landed in a field in Pennsylvania this happened because the passengers learned that the aircraft had been hijacked …show more content…
America wanted to prove that no one could offend them without being punished, and by calling it a necessary war on terrorism, they sent troops to Afghanistan. To be more precise they sent NATO invaded Afghanistan October 2001. The goal was to eliminate Al-Qaeda.
Only Two months after 9/11 the federal government expanded the capability of National Security Agency (NSA) they gained access to gather data on U.S. citizens, in addition to foreign nationals and governments. This was not mentioned to the public until 2013 when Edward Snowden revealed the extent of NSA´s spying program.
Quickly after 9/11 citizens in the US strong trust in the federal government. According to pew researcher data, the trust in the government peaked which had not happened since the 1970s. Fast forwarded to 2013 trust in government had decreased to 19% due to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. One year later the trust had gone from 19% to 24%.
After 9/11 the US saw a decreasing number for tourism, this continued for 3 years. However, in 2007, the US saw a massive change in tourism 60million international travelers visited the US and these numbers are getting bigger and
