Alpha Sorority Incorporated: Case Study
Dear Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated
In Today’s society the black woman is looked at as objects with bad attitudes. For example, shows like Love&Hip Hop, Basketball Wives, and Bad girls Club do not help the image of the black female any better. But I believe Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to do the opposite of that. The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is to provide the best image of a Black lady. The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is to provide sisterhood, service, and high scholastics. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated members are supposed to be able to serve as role models to young girls so that they can see that black woman do not have to act like the ones on television.

Throughout these organizations I am either serving as a mentor or using my media skills. For example, with Chapel Assistants I have the opportunity to help prepare for each chapel service but I also serve in the Media Ministry which is responsible for making CD’s for each service, mailing CDs to attendees, and being sure the speaker gets a copy of their sermon. I love the job because I truly get to build relationships with those that attend chapel. Within the Spotlight Network I am currently a reporter in which I report events that are going on campus. This year the Spotlight Network will have its own shows and I will serve as a reporter of the shows. With Howard Players I get work on my acting skills by attending workshops. Alternative Spring Break, was my chance to be able to spend an entire week Mentoring students at Normandy High School which is located in Ferguson Missouri. To this day I continue to mentor those students I met through email. In the Freshman Leadership Academy my freshman year all year I was taught to be a leader and even had the opportunity to travel to China and provide service. Because I am a sophomore I get to use the things I learn to help mentor a current freshman. Lastly, Matriculate is a recent organization that is affiliated with Howard’s campus in which through google hangout I mentor students in low income high school.
I am a firm believer of giving back to my community and being sure to stay involved as much as possible. If it wasn’t for other taking time to help mold me I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I pray that through this letter I am able to clearly express my love for this organization.
-Best, Nayo

As Corbin and I prepare for the Spring All Corps Event on March 19th, it is our hope that you would lead a session to build on the previous experience.…

    1. When I think of what I can contribute to the university to community, I begin to look at what the university is all about. Florida A M University is all about warmth and acceptance. It’s all about driving students from all walks of life to perform to the best of their capabilities. There all about welcoming African American students and encouraging them to pursue greater heights. My only wish is that I will be given a chance to contribute even in the smallest of way, in helping the university keep its reputation and the prestige it deserves. Doing so is not an impossible task for I believe that simply being myself will be a contribution itself. I honestly believe that I am strong enough to face the multiple challenges that will come along the way as I pursue my…

Toast for a change has to do with this young girl who joins a sorority and soon finds out it isn’t what she imagined. Getting into a sorority doesn’t seem worth the degrading process, but once it’s all over popularity takes its course. At first hearing it was all totally worth it if she had friends and got into parties for free, but as time goes on she continues to ask herself, is it really worth it? There comes a time when things either need to change or simply be removed. Whether or not she is brave enough to make the decision depends on her. Several individuals don’t have what it takes to shape for something that's right, when facing the so-called “popular people. She will have to do this on her own, like I did.…
