Allen Iverson Analysis
Allen Iverson is one of the most famous basketball players not only because of his talent, but also because of his reckless attitude outside of the game. The documentary shows how Iverson acted as a child and shows how he committed himself to sports so he could get out of the projects. The film shows how he struggled with adversity and was eventually able to overcome it by dedicating himself to basketball. There are many psychological principles in the documentary that relate to how Iverson was able to leave the projects because of his dedication to sports. The main principles featured in the documentary are situation approach, trait-centered view, need achievement theory, consequences, outcome goals and mental toughness. These traits focus on Iverson’s personality and how he rose to fame as an unconventional basketball player. …show more content…
Gary Moore was one of Iverson’s coaches but he became more like his mentor when Iverson was in school. Iverson’s grades dropped as his attendance went down so he moved in with Moore. Moore was harsh on Iverson because he wanted him to succeed and rise to greatness. At the end of high school, Iverson won a championship for both football and basketball. His success stopped when got into a fight at a bowling alley and was sent to prison. The mayor eventually allowed for his release and Iverson played basketball for Georgetown University the next year. Later, Iverson was first pick for the Philadelphia 76ers and was MVP of the NBA that year. Iverson was known outside of court for his badboy style and attitude.
