Question: What does Arthur Miller tell us through the character of Joe Keller in “All My Sons”?

I think that Arthur Miller tells us about responsibility, how we should be responsible and not blame it on other people, also how your responsible, the importance of family, how money affects people and war.

On Page 49 Joe Keller describes the importance of family, he says “see...this is what I mean. you get older and, you want to feel that you accomplished something. my only accomplishment is my son.” this shows how much Joe Kellers family means to him and how his son is the only person he bad he wants to give his son a good life, we also know this because on page 69 he says,

Your a boy what could I do, I’m in business, a man is in business; a hundred and twenty cracked your out of business; you got a process, the process don’t work your out of business, you don't know how to operate, your stuff is no good; they close you up, they tear up your contracts?

This quote shows how much Joe Keller tries to show his son that he did it because he was scared they would take his business from him, he also tries to justify what he did by saying that he did it for his son that he did it for him, we finally know this because he says “You lay forty years into a business and they knock you out in five minutes, what could I do, let them take forty years, let them take my life away? I never thought they’d install them. I swear to God.” this clearly shows he does not want to take full responsibility for what he did instead he blames it on other people by saying “ I never thought they’d install them” blaming other people saying they should have spotted the cracked cylinder heads this clearly shows how he tries to dodge his responsibilities and put them on other people.

Arthur Miller try’s to tell us about responsibility through the character Joe Keller we know this because on page 77 he says “I could live a quarter a

Centuries ago, a writer by the name of Aesop began to tell fables to those around him to make his own commentary on issues such as the ways he believed individuals should live in order to be “good” people. He covered everything from jealousy, to cautiousness, to being true to oneself. Just like Aesop, Arthur Miller uses his play Death of a Salesman to make his own social commentary about society in his time, and the points he made can still be applied to today’s society.…

Joe Miller: At first he's reluctant to help him in suing Wyant, Wheeler mostly because of his bias' against gay people. He'd rather sue the city on behalf of people who have gone out of their way to bruise their ankles on municipal property than break new legal ground by equating workers with AIDS and those with other disabilities. But while Beckett and Miller prepare their case, they form a surprisingly deep bond and he starts seeing him as a fellow human worth of affection, compassion and respect.…

There are many parallels that can be drawn between August Wilson’s and Arthur Miller’s main characters in both of their respective plays. While some may not be immediately obvious, I plan to connect many of the dots to illuminate the similar characteristics exhibited by the characters in question. Wilson and Miller both present main characters that have similarities such as having strained relationships with their children. Other comparable traits between these two characters are their unfaithfulness to their wife, and not being able to face reality.…

Arthur Miller was the original writer of “The Crucible”, and what he wrote shows his beliefs about what was going on at the time, The Red Scare. At that time, the U.S was afraid like Salem, but instead of witchcraft fearing townspeople, there were communist panicked citizens. At the time, Senator McCarthy was responsible for starting the wildfire of fear, making people fear communism, making it seem like a disease that plagued the world. Many people were trapped in the common fear, but there were some who saw the truth of what was going on, one of these people was Arthur Miller. Through his play, people learned what their fear and and actions was causing, how sudden and frantic actions are not the answer.…
