Vocal awareness: 205 words
In the play ‘Blood Wedding’ the character; the Moon has very evil, chilling and blood thirsty characteristics. To make an impact, I entered the stage reciting the line, singing in a high pitched voice. I projected from my throat to create a croaky tone of voice and elongated the words as if we are singing a nursery rhyme. This created a spooky and eyrie entrance. One effective technique we used was to speak in unison, for dramatic effect. “They shall not escape” the 2 actors on the sides of me projected their voice and scrunched their face whilst speaking from the throat which gave an almost witch like cry as they cackled the line together. After pushing me onto the floor I spoke through my nose to have a wicked and nasally tone of voice which made the line “who is hiding? And “Who is sobbing?” very cynical and bloodthirsty. As 3 actors played the moon, we decided to say the line “I am cold” in a chorus. We all stood centre stage in a line. The person on the far left said the line first and we all followed and repeated the line one after each. I said the line in a tremulous tone and whispered the line to show the audience we were cold creatures of the night.

In the play Blood wedding we explored the language of Lorca in the scene where the bride and Leonardo run off together. The Language is written in poetry and this is the first time humans in the play speak in poetry. I believe Lorca’s Intention was to heighten this scene. The language is a lot more intense, biblical and non-naturalistic and the aim for the actor is to create an impact. Such phrases like “splinters of glass are stuck in my tongue,” created this lovelorn almost tormented nature of their love and we had to portray the hardship of the relationship. One exercise we did to create a heighten performance was to have me Leonardo and the Bride opposite me being dragged away from each other by other actors and whilst reciting the lines

I must be able to shape, interpret and use the elements of drama to create particular effects for an audience. To enhance conflict I decided to place Ruby and Ray upstage so that they have a closer proximity with the audience. I decided to create many pauses between Sylvie and Ray’s dialogue to redefine the conflict. For example when Sylvie says, ‘Ray…? Where’s Ruby?’ and Ray responds with, ‘I don’t know, Sylvie! I don’t know!’ I decided to place the actors so that they’re facing each other with a pause after Ray’s dialogue to show the climatic moment. I decided for Sylvie to imagine the mannequin of Ruby is outside the front under the street lamp so she is looking out into the audience enhancing the conflict revolving around the missing mannequin which she says. ‘The mannequin! She’s not under the street lamp. Somebody’s taken her. Who could be that cruel?’ Sylvie is looking out frantically into the audience making the audience feel uncomfortable and uneasy enhancing the conflict of this missing mannequin. One last way in which conflict is shown is through the body part of Ruby being sent in a parcel and how they don’t know the answers to who sent it and why and how it event got there reinforcing the invasion of a safe neighbourhood. For…

When doing a reading performance of a text, there are many choices that a performer can make. Everything that a performer does during a performance is a deliberate choice from one’s facial expression to one’s tone. A performer can also choose how they stand, how they project, and where they place the characters in the room. These choices can drastically change the feel of a performance. They can also communicate to the audience how the performer interpreted the piece. It is possible to have several different readings of the same piece and get several very different interpretations from each performer.…

Shakespeare has created a variety of voices in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by giving the characters a dialogue that tells the audience about themselves and the world they live in. Two characters, Juliet and the Nurse have mostly the voices conveying changing moods and different attitudes. I will then relate how ideas presented in Romeo and Juliet can be compared with the moods and attitudes conveyed by the speakers in ‘To His Coy Mistress’ and ‘Les Grands Seigneurs’.…

Veronica Franco, being chief among the courtesans, is the most impressive with her use of a rather satiric approach to transforming courtly love into bedroom banter. In her poem, “Terze Rime, Capitolo 13” she makes use of double entendre, which according to our textbook is, “a figure of speech in which a phrase can be understood in either of two ways.” (Pg. 624) In this poem she challenges her lover to a dual in a playful manner. She states, “No more words! To deed, to the battlefield, to arms!...Yours will be the choice of place or of arms…let it be your decision…Come here, and, full of most wicked desire, braced stiff for your sinister task, bring with daring hand a piercing blade.” (Pg. 624) She uses the language of chivalric knighthood…

To start with, “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World” portrays love as a metaphor by describing the love between two different people. In fact, Marquez exemplifies, “Thanks to God,” they sighed: he’s ours.”(Marquez 3) After the men returned with the exciting news that Esteban was not missing from the nearby villages, the women were delighted by the wonderful news. The women reveal the love they had for him. Also, Marquez highlights, “The women then decided to make him pants with a piece of gaff sail, and a shirt of fine linen so that he could continue his death with…

When in voice and diction class I’ve learn a lot about the way how we as actors explore the use of the human body and how just based on the slightest body movement can change the whole intention of the line that is being delivered just as the power of breath can greatly affect the text for example anything that was from Shakespearian times or most Greek text. Considering that fact i will be talking about a Greek tragedy known as Antigone. There is a lot of that same purpose and intention in the way that the acting cast as a unit did using their voice.…
