Algebra 1 Narrative
Algebra 1, most students enroll in this class their freshman year. A few special students take this class their eighth grade year. An even smaller pool of students are given the option to take this class their seventh grade year. Fortunately, I was part of the small group of students able to take Algebra 1 my seventh grade year. Not only did I make all A’s, but I also scored a pass plus on my ECAs for that class at a solid 729.
The next year, I transferred schools where Geometry Honors was not offered to eighth grade students. After talking with the superintendent of the school corporation, I was placed in the high school Geometry Honors class. This class was not easy, but it was a challenge I was ready for. Not only did I pass the class, but I did so with an A in both semesters.

This was due to the fact that, before I transferred schools, I was already enrolled in that class. I completed that class with flying colors; I ended both semesters with a perfect A+.
The advanced math and Spanish classes I have taken since then have been a direct repercussion of those classes. My first technical year of high school, I took Algebra II, Spanish II, and every honors class I could.
My sophomore year, this year, I enrolled in the AP physics class. Honestly, I only enrolled in this class rather than the chemistry class for two reasons. Firstly, my school does not offer an honors chemistry class and I thought it would not be challenging enough. Secondly, I have a huge interest in math and math related problems. Physics is like a huge application problem class.
This year I also enrolled in two English classes, English 10 Honors, and English 11 AP. I planned to graduate early in order to go to college sooner. I thought it would be wise not to take English 11 AP and English 12 AP in the same

My eleventh grade year was arduous. Not only was I concerned about passing five Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GGT), but math III was complex. math III was full of foreign concepts and equations. Overtime, I grew excited about learning new concepts in math III. My teacher was a great influence upon me. He regularly encouraged me to work hard. With his support and endless determination I was committed to succeeding. A few weeks went by and class was going great. We were learning how to plot linear functions, factor polynomials, and how to find missing sides on a right triangle. I was very consistent with studying and reviewing past assignments. I knew if I did not study I would not pass the tests. As the end of the semester grew near, I grew concerned about the final exam partly because I had forgotten a few of the earlier lessons in the class.…

I never came kindly to the subject of Math. Math was always about constant rote memorization, full of extensive redundant notes that always found their way stuffed into the folds of my notebook never to be seen again. I held onto this impression the entire duration of ninth grade. However, upon a simple happenstance of acquiring the right math teacher with a different approach to math, I became increasingly aware of my previous errors in thinking. Everything was not as unyielding and tedious as I thought it was. Experiencing a teacher with a powerful new perspective altered my rigid frame of thinking, allowing me to excel in math.…

Back when I was in high school I took all four years of an English literature course because it was just a required course for me take in order for me to graduate. My high teachers always tell me that I will be doing a bunch of reading and writing when I go off to college. I was always a math and science person. I came from a family background when they deal with numbers and logical reasoning. English was not my worst subject but it is not enough for me to care for the subject.…

There was no way I would be able to take that class. Yes, I did think I had improved in my speaking, and yes, I knew I was better than most in my class. But did that mean I was ready for the intense workload I had heard about? I saw the students in the AP class; they all spoke like native speakers. How could I work up to that level when I still felt like I was at the bottom? I thought I knew my skills pretty well—so what did my teacher see in me that I didn’t?…

My school only offered AP classes to students who were seniors. As a Junior, I wanted to challenge myself, and prepare for college, so I decided to self-study for an exam. After doing some research, I decided that the best AP exams for me were AP Microeconomics and Computer Science. These topics were interesting and were applicable to my prospective careers. I found an online course for AP Computer Science. For AP Microeconomics, I bought an AP exam prep book. Though my aspirations and goals were great, being committed them was a true challenge. I still had to keep my regular school work and activities as a higher priority. I was able to keep track with AP Computer Science for the first semester, but I tried to get through its lessons and assignments…

When my parents first expressed to me that I needed to take advanced courses starting freshman year, I was skeptical. I desired an easy, laid-back experience in high school; however, my parents declared otherwise. I began freshman year with three honors classes, and the parental expectation to make at least ninety-five percent in all of my classes. At the time, I thought this to be too extreme, but little did I know that colleges look back on all grades…

My junior year of high school, according to several of my trust worthy teachers, should be rigorous and competitive if I ever wanted a chance to get into college. Naturally, being a gullible fool, I signed up for two AP classes, an honor class, and a sport. As a sport I chose wrestling, it was very time consuming but I knew I could manage. I felt pretty confident about AP biology and Algebra 2 honors since they were subjects I was fairly skilled in. but as for my other AP course, AP language and Composition, I was a bit uneasy.…
