a. Brief analysis of the case
Hilary Thomas is a practice leader of the HR consultancy division of French and Reynolds. A year ago, Alex Wright an HR consultant joined the company. Alex holds a degree in history from Manchester University and an MA in Human Resource Management from Demontfort University. He also holds a chartered membership of the CIPD. Prior to joining the team that Hilary is over, Alex worked under two other practice leaders John Cox and Jim Standing. This case study examines Hilary Thomas perspective and Alex Wright perspective.

The Problem Solving style of interview will be of beneficial to Alex as this style of interview is best suited for coaching and development, which is what Alex requires. This style of interview will enable Hilary and Alex to discuss Alex’s difficulties in report writing, working with clients and on interdisciplinary teams. This interview style will also encourage Alex into suggesting ways in which he can improve his working performance in these areas. Additional, this will enable Hilary to consider Alex’s suggestions and together this will enable them to agree upon a plan that will assist in developing Alex’s work …show more content…
His technical skills were graded as excellent. This excellent grade shows that Alex has a high level of knowledge, understanding and expertise which is required to carry out work effectively. Two additional aspects that went well for Alex were his result orientation and his ability to influence and persuade others to agree on a certain course of action. An aspect that went bad for Alex is his written communication. Alex believes that the lack of training and guidance that he received was a contributing factor for this. Additional, other aspects that had negative feedback was his team orientation and interpersonal skills. A criticism that he doesn’t accept, as he feels he never had any issues in these areas prior to working in French and
