Ford Motor Company is ranked 24th on the 22nd Annual “Top 50 Employers” list in Minority Engineer magazine (Winter 2012/2013 edition). “In 2006, Ford lost $12.7 billion, its worst performance ever. In 2010, the company had net income of $6.6 billion, its biggest profit in a decade. A stock price so low ($1.25 a share) that it prompted “you want fries with that?” jokes in 2008 has now rebounded into the $12 to $14 range” (Success, 2013).

Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s challenge to send a man to the moon, the current president and chief Executive Officer of Ford Motor Company, Alan Mulally has come far in that path. Alan Mulally is responsible for these and many other accomplishments. He joined the ranks of Ford in September 2006, obviously a very tumultuous for a number of our automotive companies.

Born, Alan Roger Mulally on August 4, 1945 to Charles Mulally and Lizette Clark in Oakland California. (Note: he turned 58 during the writing of this paper.) He grew up in Lawrence, Kansas his mother’s home town. He considered his minister, the Rev. Dale Turner, “a mentor and inspiration” from whom he learned some motivational techniques by studying the man himself when he was on the pulpit.
