Al Capone's Legacy
Al Capone transformed the world of crime by bringing violence and massacre to the town of Chicago Illinois. The criminal became one of FBI’s most wanted and had a huge influence on gangsters and mobs in the 1920’s. Although now Capone is dead, his legacy is still carrying on as crime rates climb to the all time highs. Al Capone was born in the year 1899, in Brooklyn New York. This is where his mob life had begun. His family was poor and were also immigrants so he had nothing. School was difficult for him, so he dropped out just at the 6th grade. Life didn't become any easier for him after this. He began joining random street gangs, where it all started. One gang he joined was called “FBI”, and because of the gang Capone became a murdered. …show more content…
This job ultimately changed how the direction of his life went. “Capone was a bartender and and bouncer at Harvard Inn in Coney Island. It was there that Capone earned his nickname “Scarface”. (History.com) Shortly after, Capone met the love of his life and married Mae Coughlin and had a son named Albert. Capone moved to Baltimore where he got an easy steady job as a bookkeeper. He kept out of trouble now that he was a father and a husband. Bad news hit and Capone’s father died, and he felt as if he had no choice but to go back to his old life. Bootlegging is an extremely illegal business and it keeps growing. Although crime wasn't near as bad back in the 20’s then it is today, he still influenced how gang crime is carried out. Alcohol smuggling kept Capone known and kept his status high. This is also true for many criminals that we have today. Al Capone left an everlasting effect on the town of Chicago. Chicago today is one of the nation's cities with the highest crime rates and gang activity. Chicago is known for its bad criminal and gangs affiliated background. Murder rates increase almost every year past 60%. The gangs use Al Capone's influences and apply it to how they do their business. With Al Capone, guns were a big part of how murders went about, and it still stands the same for today. Over 91% of deaths are caused by a firearm. Al Capone changed the lives of many Americans who live in the United States today. Crime rams violence was a huge part of Al Capone's life and many others today are just like him.
