One of the most recent and controversial regulations passed by the current administration is the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) signed on December 16, 2011. “MATS will reduce emissions of heavy metals, including mercury (Hg), arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni); and acid gases, including hydrochloric acid (HCl) and hydrofluoric acid (HF). These toxic air pollutants, also known as hazardous air pollutants or air toxics, are known or suspected of causing cancer and other serious health effects.”4 United States Power Plants are some of the leading contributors of the above mentioned pollutants. “Until now there have been no federal standards that require power plants to limit their emissions of toxic air pollutants like mercury, arsenic and metals - despite the availability of proven control technologies, and the more than 20 years since the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments passed.”3 Though coal is comparatively cost effective to other forms of electricity and is readily available in various parts of the country there are some drawbacks. Burning fossil fuels such as coal emits byproducts that are harmful to the environment. Sulfur dioxide causes acid rain that can damage nature and buildings. Carbon dioxide is thought to be the leading cause of global warming by some. Mercury can lead to unsafe water sources and make wildlife in those sources unsafe to eat.2…

Fracking is a process of injecting water, sand, or chemicals at a high pressure into rocks that creates cracks within these rocks which allows oil or gas to flow through. After the oil or gas flows through, it is now able to be extracted. This also releases brine, or waste, which is then pumped into injection wells. Although this process could bring millions of dollars into the oil and gas industry, it is also the number one cause of earthquakes in Texas. It also can release carcinogenic chemicals, or chemicals that aid in causing cancer.…

Does money really grow on trees or is that just a saying? People say they never have money to buy for example new shoes that coast around eighty dollars but they could spend over a hundred on gas. I mean c’mon man; you honestly don’t need to drive your car everywhere you go. The reason for having a car is to get you from point A to point B and that’s it, no pit stops or a last minute party that you herd was suppose to be bad ass from a person you met 5 minutes ago. Gas is one of the main key for transportations but the way gas prices are going up we should just sell our cars on other things like food, people are getting fat anyhow might as well start early. People should start blowing up all the cars in the US...chanting gas prices needs to…

I strongly urge you to do something drastic about fracking. Protecting the profits of companies should not come before protecting the health and well being of American Citizens. When signing up to be an organ donor you usually think only your major organs will be used; however, something as small as a ligament of yours is used in popular surgeries such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions. When someone tears their ACL they usually have a choice to have an autograft, or use one of their own ligaments, but they can also choose to have an allograft, or take a cadaver’s ligament to repair it. Each has it’s advantages and disadvantages, but I personally think that the better option is the allograft because I think the advantages are better than using your own ligament from another part of your body. The advantages consist of faster operative time, less post-operative pain, and a faster recovery time.…

Attention Getter: I would like to start my presentation off by telling you all to ask yourselves a series of fairly straight forward questions. I want you to take a look at you’re, any hand and ask your selves “Who’s hand is this?” Do the same with your other hand, and now both legs and your arms if you would like. If I am not mistaking the answer to all your questions are mine right. They are your hands, legs, and arms. In a speech given to the US Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works on July 28, 2003, entitled "The Science of Climate Change", Senator James Inhofe concluded by asking the following question: "With all of the hysteria, all of the fear, all of the phony science, could it be that man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people?" He has claimed "some parts of the IPCC process resembled a Soviet-style trial, in which the facts are predetermined, and ideological purity trumps technical and scientific rigor." Inhofe has suggested that supporters of the Kyoto Protocol such as Jacques Chirac are aiming at global positions.…

If you don’t know what Global warming is it is the increase in the earth’s average temperature due to the release of several greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by humans. Global warming is affecting many different parts of the world and in turn causes a cause and effect. Glaciers are melting which is causing the sea level to rise. When the sea level rises it causes damage to people living in low lying areas, and damages to plants by covering them which causes them to die. Which in turn causes animals to lose their main source of food, and causes us humans to lose our two main sources of food. If we don’t do something about global warming everything we take for granted might disappear.…
