THE PROS AND CONS OF THE INTERNET In my opinion, the Internet has many benefits, but it also has disadvantages as well. No sensible citizens can deny the fact that the Internet plays a very undispensable role in our life. Firstly, the Internet is a very fast and convenient way to get information. According to the New York Daily News (2009, 1st October), about more than 70% of students and pupils all over the world agreed that information was probably the biggest advantage that the Internet offers. There is a huge amount of information available on the Internet about every subject. You will not have to spend days at the library searching for information anymore. With just one click, you can find as much information as you like. Secondly, the Internet is a various source of entertainment. You can listen to musis, watch films, read books or play games while surfing the Internet. In fact, the Internet has become quite successful in trapping the entertainment industry. Moreover, you can also communicate with friends or relatives living faraway from you by means of email, chatting or webcam. Thirdly, the Internet is also a means of education where you can learn all by yourself. Online learning is a popular option nowadays. You can learn English, Mathematics, Chinese, etc. as well as many other subjects online. It will not be too time- consuming for you to improve your study. Nevertheless, the Internet has limitations. If you use the Internet for online banking or social networking, you may risk losing all your personal information. Some bad people can take advantage of your details and use them for their own benefits. In addition, Internet users sometimes have to suffer from other various risks such as sapam or electronic junk mail, and viruses. The Internet is also time- consuming and costly.
