Agnew Middle School Observation
During the third week at Agnew Middle School, my target was to observe Ms. Davis’ classroom procedures.
However, since her procedures are the similar every day, Tuesday and Thursday went along identically routine wise. To begin the day, Ms. Davis takes attendance once the students arrive to her class. While she is executing this daily task, her students are working on their morning warm-up. The supplies for the assignment are previously on the desks before the students walk in so they can get started subsequently reviewing their warm-up. Given one minute, the students retrieve their folders form a basket and a calculator from a yarn-stitched pocket. Moreover, to turn in assignments, Ms. Davis provides them with a football turn in box placed

To assist Ron’s comprehension and dedication to the established classroom procedures and norms by starting with his morning routine, as his assistant, it would be prudent to allow Ron to take a huge role in creating the procedure this will significantly influence the way he owns it. Upon creation of the norms and procedures, I will ensure that he has an in-depth understanding of the reason for this new set up. Knowing that Ron is easily distracted especially during the transition times, I will give him an opportunity to practice this new procedure through a series of rehearsals. Such practice sessions allow me to see the sets of procedures and norms that work for him and those that will need modification. One other critical aspect…

I observed Mrs. Ball’s 7th grade science class at Helen Tyson Middle School on Thursday November 5, 2015. The classroom had a great climate and was decorated with interesting scientific educational material. She had the desks set up in organized rows with two kids per table. This set up allowed for less interaction between the kids because they were so spaced out, which seemed to keep them on task. The dynamics in the classroom were great. She connected well with each student and was interested in what they had to say. She was very in control of the class and the students seemed to respond well to her. The students interacted pleasantly with one another and were were all very welcoming. They came into class, sat down, and got right to work.…

My search for a research site has brought me to various establishments, but choosing one that allows me to observe without any feelings of violations towards any individual is very tricky. My first few chosen sites felt uncomfortable, these were at a park (children playground), a bus stop, and a bank. Yes, I know. These places made me felt as if, I was the one being watched. My other places (ones that I didn’t get a chance to entertain were, a library, Dave and Busters, and a public train. However, after noticing a group of children walking with assistance heading towards a daycare located on Hempstead Avenue in Queens village, I decided to enquire about the daycare. At first I wasn’t able to see the director, but after making an appointment…

Washington Elementary School is located in West Orange, New Jersey in a neighborhood where mostly African American and Hispanic businesses and people were surrounding the area. As I arrived to the school or left, I usually only saw minorities in the surrounding neighborhood. This correlated with the students I saw in the classroom I observed, and throughout the school. In the classroom there was a total of 17 students, all of which were minorities. Ten of the students are Hispanic and seven are African American. I did not see too many White or Asian students throughout the school, or in the neighborhood. However, the racial and ethnic demographics for West Orange showed that the majority of the population is White. Statistics on race and ethnicity show that 62.1% of West Orange identify as being White, 17.1% as being Black, 10% as being Hispanic, 8.1% as being Asian, 2.4% as being two…

There were two Caucasian students, seven African-American students, and six Mexican students. Mrs. Brodie was the teacher and Ms. Johnson was the teacher assistant. The classroom was large and there was plenty of space for the children to move about. The classroom structure was very similar to that of the 3-year-old classroom that I observed in my first field observation. There was also a carpet on the floor for circle time and the classroom was divided up into centers as well. The centers were clearly labeled. Some of the centers included reading, art, science, manipulatives, and blocks. As I stated before it was very similar to the 3-year-old classroom set-up. The classroom was filled with print and there were many different aspects of cultural references which included posters in the Spanish language and books that represented the different diversity of all of the students. The classroom was like the 3-year-old classroom amplified. I am thinking that maybe because the school is state funded that it why they do have so many more materials than a regular preschool classroom. The science area even had a telescope in the center. The children knew what it was and what it was used…

It was obvious that Ms. Brown had created a plan for this lesson by observing the progression of the skills that were being taught and that they were presented in a logical order that aided student comprehension. Both the students and the teacher were familiar with the skills and the delivery. She also posts lesson plans online. Objectives and expectations of the lesson were communicated to the students on a special place on the board, at the front of the class with essential questions and " I can" statements. Ms. Brown was able to gain the students' attention for the lesson with a hook type activity. It was an engaging question for the student to answer that was related to the topic. Students worked independently, in pairs and in groups and read a selection either by themselves or with another student. The material was then presented in a graphic organizer by the teacher with illustrations and relevant examples provided by the students. They also read the selection (either our loud to a partner or to themselves) and then the material was displayed in the form of a graphic organizer for the visual learners. Ms. Brown used PowerPoint to present the material.…

At 1:00 p.m. I entered into Evoline C. West Elementary school on Thursday, July 12 2012 for an interview with Mrs. Yolanda Lawrence. As I entered the classroom, I was greeted by Mrs. Lawrence, the head teacher in this classroom. Mrs. Lawrence has no assistant at this present because of it being in the summer. After I entered into the classroom, the entire class welcomed me with “hello Ms. Flournoy”. It made my day to see all of those smiley faces greeting me. This was a 2nd grade classroom which consisted of 17 students of which 8 were girls and 9 were boys. This interview and observation was a total of 2 hours long. During the observation of Mrs. Lawrence classroom, I noticed how the students flocked under Mrs. Lawrence as she started reading one their favorite books before they did their afternoon lesson. For some reason I got an excitement about doing this interview.…
