Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to:




understand how the relevant economic factors shape the environment within which an engineering company operates
evaluate the financial condition of a company based on the financial statements apply the basic cost accounting techniques in the planning and control of engineering and production activities

Attendance and Class Participation
Students are expected to attend all lecture and tutorial classes and their attendance will be recorded. Students are advised to read through the lecture slides, self-study notes and relevant sections of the textbook before each class so as to prepare themselves for effective learning and active participation in discussions.

Assessment Method
Assessment of this course is comprised of the following components:  Group presentation of tutorial questions (10%)
 Individual written assignment (15%)
 Tutorial participation and attendance (5%)
 Mid-term test (20%)
 Final Examination (50%)
Students are divided into eight groups and each group is required to make an oral presentation on one set of tutorial questions. Please refer to pages 9 and 10 for guidance. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN POOR GRADES.

The grading of your presentation will be based on the following criteria:  Accuracy
 Contents (i.e., whether you have addressed all the key issues)  English proficiency and presentation skills
