Internet has tremendous potentials and a lot to offer in terms of services. However, if examined carefully, the Internet appears to have not only advantages but also some drawbacks.
One good point is that the Internet is a source of information. There is a huge amount of information available on the Internet for just about every subject known to man, such as government law and services, market information, new ideas and technical support. This advantage has been used in education. Students use the Internet to do their homework assignment. Even teachers have started giving assignments that require extensive research on the Internet.
Internet can be also a tool for to communication. People can send emails or use chat rooms to contact with other people who are physically thousand kilometers away. Different from the past, when it took weeks for a letter to reach the recipient, now communication occurs instantly, bringing the world together.
Nonetheless, some disadvantages of using the Internet can also be noticed. The first drawback concerns/is about/is related to safety. Often theft of personal details is reported, for example. Personal information such as one’s name, address, credit card, bank details and other information can be accessed by hackers.
Another bad point of the Internet is that it often leads to addiction. People suffering from the Internet addiction use the virtual world as a substitution for real-life human connection. They find the Internet as an escape from a stressful or depressing day. Nevertheless, excessive use of the Internet causes more problems. Internet addiction leads to depression, lack of communication among family members and a waste of time.
