Advantage and Disadvantages of Means of Media
An essay on the topic: Advantage and disadvantages of means of media Means of media are the instruments or devices to disseminate information to common people. Media can be used for promotions of products and services, For instance, news paper, TVs, advertisements, radio announcements can be used as a means of communication. These are the form of entertainment. These are the means in which globalization takes place, a means of informing people about events from local to international to global miscommunications.
Mainly means of media are used by the business organizations to advertise the products in the market. An important step to developing your sales and marketing plan is to select the right media to send out your message. There are no hard-and-fast rules as to which media is better. The right media for one business may be wrong for another.
Newspapers are one of the traditional mediums used by businesses, both big and small alike, to advertise their businesses. There are many advantages of newspapers. It allows us to reach a huge number of people in a given geographic area so that we can have the flexibility in deciding the ad size and placement within the newspapers. Exposure to the ad is not limited; we readers can go back to the message again and again if so desired. In the present world, the quick turn-around helps the published ad reflect the changing market conditions. The ad we decide to run today can be in our customers' hands in one to two days. So easy communication with the people is merits of use of newspapers.
Similarly, radio is a universal medium enjoyed by people at one time or another during the day, at home, at work, and even in the car, buses and different criteria. The vast array of radio program formats offers to efficiently target the advertising dollars to narrowly defined segments of consumers most likely to respond to the offer. It gives the business personality through the creation of campaigns using sounds and voices. During the past ten years, radio rates have seen less inflation than those for other media. Likewise, television permits us to reach large numbers of people on a national or regional level in a short period of time. Independent stations and cable offer new opportunities to pinpoint local audiences. Though means of communication open access to people of all ages, likie the violent programmes being available to small children may affect their mind. Likewise, some issues are over publicized through the media making it seem contentious. While other that happen to important, take a back seat maybe due to lack to access to get on the public media forum.
In spite, of this there are some disadvantages of newspapers. The ad space can be expensive. Because the newspapers are a price-oriented medium, most ads are for sales. Expect your ad to have a short shelf life, as newspapers are usually read once and then discarded. Many people may be paying to send message to a lot of people who will probably never be in the market to buy from them. Newspapers are a highly visible medium, so the competitors can quickly react to your prices. With the increasing popularity of the Internet, newspapers face declining readership and market penetration. A growing number of readers now skip the print version of the newspaper and instead read the online version of the publications.
Besides, this radio has some disadvantages, because radio listeners are spread over many stations, we may have to advertise simultaneously on several stations to reach our target audience and listeners cannot go back to our ads to go over important points. Ads are an interruption in the entertainment. Radio is a background medium; most listeners are doing something else while listening, which means that our ad has to work hard to get their attention. Similarly, Television being an image-building and visual medium, it offers the ability to convey our message s with sight, sound and motion though the message is temporary, and may require multiple exposure for the ad to rise above the clutter. Ads on network affiliates are concentrated in local news broadcasts and station breaks. Relatively televisions expensive in terms of creative, production and costs.
Therefore, there are different pros and cons of means of media .These shows that media has affected in our lives in many ways. We should try to use all these media in an efficient way so there may be more advantage in our lives rather than disadvantage, though it depends upon how people are using it.
