Adnan Is Guilty
Usually people don’t think much about murders being convicted and put into jail. If the court decides that someone is guilty of a murder, then you will automatically assume that they’re guilty. Well in the podcast Serial, by Sarah Koenig, a man named Adnan Syed is convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee. This podcast really makes you start thinking about who really killed Hae. With the evidence in the podcast, I have decided that Adnan is guilty. Adnan killed Hae because the, “neighbor boy” claims that he had seen a body been put into the trunk of a car by Adnan, Nisha put Jay and Adnan together when Adnan was supposed to be somewhere else, and Kathy thinks that Jay’s and Adnan’s behavior was unusual.
The first reason that Adnan is guilty is because of this

In serial, Kathy states that she had a random guy who was high in her living room, and who was friends with Jay. She said that he was acting weird the whole time that he was there and that he had gotten a phone call before he left. While he talked on the phone she said he looked worried and like he didn’t know what to do, then he burst out of the room without saying anything. This looks sketchy because he was high in the first place, then just ran outside without a word. If he was so worried, you would think that he would try to act more casual and less suspicious, or maybe it was the drugs that were keeping him from thinking straight. After he left the room, he sat in his car and talked to Jay for a long time. After a while though, he left. This information is useful for the case against Adnan because it shows that Adnan is hiding something. Without this information, Adnan would not seem very sketchy, and like he is hiding something. So, with this information, you are able to conclude that Adnan got a call from someone that made him feel

Serial, is a Podcast produced by an investigative journalist and a former reporter for the Baltimore Sun named Sarah Koenig. Serial is a spinoff produced by the WBEZ 91.5 Chicago radio station and This American life. This specific podcast addresses the 1999 case of Adnan Syed vs The State of Maryland. In this case, Adnan is being accused for the murder of his former girlfriend Hae Min Lee. More than fifteen years later, this case once again sparked controversy when aired in 2014 through the podcast. In Serial, reporter Sarah Koenig intended to seek justice for Adnan by portraying him as innocent, which listeners can tell through the three rhetorical appeals; ethos, pathos and logos which she presents throughout the case along with interviews, evidence and personal statements.…

    Was Pete Anderson Guilty

Based on all of the non-genetic evidence given, Pete Anderson is guilty. If the verdict was based off of the morphology of X. tortifolia and X. confertifolia, I would say that he was innocent since they are found at the archeological site and the Johnson mine; but that’s not the reality of this case. Although the three Southern plants from Utah looked similar from the outside with the white petals and yellow center, they have different preferences when it comes to soil and location. X. tortifolia plants grow on slopes near the bottom of washes with gray soils, X. confertifolia grows on mesa tops where there’s brown soil and X. cronquistii prefers grey soil but it is rare and appears in only a few places. The fact that X. cronquistii is only found in a few locations is important because the state agent realized (after consulting with the botanist) that X. cronquistii grows in the same area that the looted Anasazi site is in. It appeared that Pete’s innocence was about to be proven when the State Geologist said that the Johnson mine is in the same geological area as the archeological site and it both has soil with a brownish, silty top layer and a gray layer beneath it but…

Police coaching is also believed to have taken place during the questioning of Jay. Within the police files, there is a document labeled ‘Jays Crinology’ and a few maps that show where cell towers are located and pinged throughout the day of the event. The document referring to what Jay’s activities is a numbered list with twenty four events that took place on the day of Hae’s disappearance. It is believed that the police were helping Jay remember the points on that list by reminding him about details that he forgot about. For example, detective McGillivray sighs of exasperation and points out that Jay and Adnan have both Hae’s car and Adnan’s car at one point in time, and Jay forgets about the detail of still having both cars. Jay says, “We…

Jay says in two different investigations that the call came in around 3:45 but according to the records they came in at 2:36. The records also show that Jay was not at Jenn’s house from 12pm to 3:40pm (like he and Jenn said) that leaves the following; Jay was in the area of Hae’s last-known location at the time that she went missing, and Jay has no alibi for where he was during that time period. Thus, Jay can’t be at Jenn’s house, as he and Jenn told the police over and over. The records show the phone near Woodlawn the entire time of Hae’s (probable) abduction and(or) murder. The same phone was being used to call “Jenn house” at the same time. Adnan has no reason to call Jenn. Did Jay call Jenn?…

Another article I would like to discuss is from People magazine written by Jeff Truesdell, Neighbors of Making a Murderer's Steven Avery Speak Out About His Guilt or Innocence: 'Those of Us Who Live Here Know He's Guilty.’ In this article, Jeff Truesdell interviewed locals of Manitowoc County; Steven Avery’s neighbors. The neighbors paint an incredibly different picture than what is provided in Making a Murderer. The neighbors discuss how much safer they felt now that Steven Avery was back in jail, and how when he was released the first time they believed something strange happened. The general consensus of his neighbors was that he was guilty for the assault he was in jail for originally, and for the crimes he is in jail for now. One neighbor…

On February 25, 2000 Adnan Syed’s world came crumbling down around him. Adnan was convicted to life plus thirty years for the murder of his high school ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. Although Adnan was convicted, he is not guilty. The prosecution's case was shaky and was built around one witnesses constantly changing testimony. The witness was Jay Wilds, the neighbourhood drug dealer and a former schoolmate of Adnan’s. As well as the prosecution's main witness being unreliable, the cell phone tower data that they used to convict Adnan says on the cover sheet that the cell phone data from incoming calls can't be used to reliably and precisely locate a cell phone. Lastly, the autopsy report of Hae Min Lee showed fixed frontal lividity, the phenomenon…

What would it be like if a person was convicted as guilty, but was really innocent? The murder of Hae Min Lee was committed on January 13, 1999. The person found guilty of this crime was Adnan Syed. Adnan was Hae’s boyfriend for a while and they were happy together, according to friends. Sarah Koenig is just a random person to Adnan Syed. She was told about the case by Rabia Chaudry whose brother was Adnan’s friend. Sarah heard what Rabia had to say about the case and was very interested. Since that time, she has done a podcast called, Serial. The reason the other side believes Adnan is guilty is because of one person; no, not Adnan himself; Jay, who says Adnan told him he was going to kill Hae. More importantly, Jay himself says that Adnan showed Hae’s body to him, as put: “I noticed that Hae wasn't with him. I parked next to him. He asked me to get out the car. I get out the car. He asks me, am I ready for this? And I say, ready for what?” And he takes the keys. He opens the trunk. And all I can see is Hae's lips are all blue, and she's pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she's dead.” (Episode I, Page 10). Jay is claiming to have been shown the body of Hae, and he is placing Adnan at the very scene of the crime. How believable is Jay, because according to Sarah and Bill Ritz, Jay’s story repeatedly keeps on changing. Sarah explains to the audience, “I put it to Bill Ritz when I talked to him briefly on the phone. Jay's story kept changing. You were catching the inconsistencies and he was having to explain them and clean up his story. So what ultimately made you believe him? Ritz said they believed Jay's story because “we were able to investigate and corroborate what he was saying.” (Episode 4, Page 68). Jay’s inaccuracies are either due the the fact that he…

Overall, if one heard this story and they would not think of it as a common murder story. Although the murder story does not make as much sense as other murder stories do, evidence is still able to line up and prove Adnan guilty. Fingerprints and DNA were not easily found, making it easy to believe that Adnan did not want anyone to know that he was the true Murder. In conclusion, Adnan syed murdered Hae Lee based on the lack of evidence to prove him innocent, the court's ruling, and his lack of memory from the day Hae…

Once again that’s not really surprising because there are a lot of murders that are still unsolved. The white community tried to silence witnesses with intimidation, discredit Emmett with stories about Emmett’s father, and accused Mamie and the NAACP of digging up a body and pretending it was her son’s. At the end of the trial, the jury of all white males spent an hour drinking pop and telling jokes to give the appearance of a deliberation, and then acquitted the two men based on “failure to prove identity” despite obvious evidence that the body was Emmett’s. Rice’s trial had a similar tone. Despite video evidence that the two officers had shot him without cause, the trial dragged on with “outrageous delays” and clear “mistreatment of the family’s experts”. Attorneys questioned the Rice family’s reputation by bringing up Samaria’s past drug charge and accusing her of trying to profit from the trial. After 400 days, a grand jury, manipulated by a corrupt prosecutor, did not indict Loehmann and Garmback. Only this month (January 2017), after years of Black Lives Matter protests and the Rice family’s continuing advocacy, did the Cleveland police department complete an internal investigation against the two men. Loehmann and Garmback were found guilty of negligence, but their charges were not connected to Rice’s murder at all. Both Mamie and Samaria tried and failed to have their cases reopened by the federal government. Rice, like Till, still waits for and deserves…
